Maybe the union members should think about what a strike will do to their economy?
The union has to be realistic. These current demands are not realistic.

Where do you draw the line. If you have the UAW everything they wanted, they would have bigger demands during the next round of negotiations
The problem is that the companies don't care how much a strike would cost the overall economy, they care how much contract negotiations will cost them. They will gladly let the economy take a dive if they think they can save money by holding out and getting a cheaper contract that stiffs their workers. It's all about the bottom line and next quarter's results, not about the greater good.
