Training

Does any dept or position in AT&T offer formal training? All I see is sink or swim as the customer suffers.

I remember when I came to AT&T the first day, I was expecting a formal training and orientation into my job. Big mistake. First day in the office, I felt like George Costanza on his first day with the Yankees. The team was caught off guard I had been hired, no PC had even been ordered, no UID, or anything else. To this day, I have never been given any formal training. Everything I have done ever has been OJT and job aids. It took me years to feel productive here.

And the formal CBT training here is a joke. Last year, half the training we did was for things that disappeared out of the portfolio.

"Randall said it is up to you to make yourself marketable to your job. Get your own training or move on. Are you suggesting that you have been paid for a job that you are not qualified to be in?"

Randall, wasn't that the guy who bought DTV and TW? Ha. He said a lot ridiculous things.

Training? That’s funny. New to CNIO and only have PLE, LOD and shadowing someone who isn’t that well trained or competent. Gotta Love It! Have seen any real training in about 15 to 20 years.

Yes tons of jobs offer formal training. Especially for people whose new job is not their primary experience. Aka mobility moving to wireless or vice versa. The B2B program is literally an entire training schools for 5-6 months.

Our technicians go through months of training etc.

When I am asked to train people, I politely remind them it is not my job. Probably why I no longer work there.

AT&T Training used to provide equipment courses for various network elements - however, most of that became blended learning (web-based prerequisite + leader-led labs,) and then just fully web-based training. At least for the equipment I used to work on, that was less than ideal

"If you need formal training, this job market has passed you by. This ain't United Airlines or the US Army. Figuring it out on-the-fly is standard procedure and if you are not assertive enough to get assistance from your colleagues, you are in the wrong line of work."

It's one thing flying an airplane ( I actually know how to do that, commercial multi rated), but there are lots of processes and procedures inside T that are not taught in schools and deserve more than a 10 minute video.

We were offered all the usual stuff; big data, automation, six sigma, cloud computing, etc. It really didn't offer much for your current role so you would have to use it to advance into a dev role or analyst role where you would use that training. Problem is a lot of the automation training was to figure out ways to have your job eliminated using automation lol. The PLE courses were not up to snuff. You really need more in depth training IMO, in order to advance into one of those roles.

That was the writing on the moving cargo train years ago. Train yourself and make the company better, expect to be laid off. Kinda like when one of the directors made staff rotate into other roles to make them 'well rounded'. Everyone hated that.

No job training. No documentation of any kind. If someone knows something they will not share cause they think it will give them job security. Terrible situation for any collaboration.

The Stink provides all the D E I training you could possibly need. No other training is needed. If you are outside the US you get all the training you want.

Facts! This is a MAJOR problem that has contributed to the downfall and decline of this company. No formal training. Side by side work and you are limited to learn as much as the person you are shadowing with knows. It is ABSOLUTELY awful. Not to mention these people were not hired as trainers. Job guides manuals are lacking/outdated/almost impossible to find. All these resources and time invested in the PLE, but specific job related content, good luck.
