Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

3 days in, or else!

It's been said on all-hands calls. "RTO is all about returning to our culture." That culture is fear and intimidation as a workforce reduction tool, confirmed.

I received a Band 2 verbal for working only 2 days in the office one week last month, a week I had a cold and fever and worked from home a few days. When I apologized and said if it should happen again I'll use my accumulated Occasional Absence leave, it was explained to me in a condescending tone that using sick time would have made no difference, as it would be only two days in office for that week, thus unacceptable and in violation of the directive.

There you have it: Even with sick days available, your only options are to come into the office sick or be disciplined for violating "Workplace Excellence" mandates. They would rather you be in-office while sick than take advantage of the ability to WFH a single unplanned day. This can't be a draconian power policy only; it's a planned Responsible Growth program to force attrition, coming from BM himself.

I can't wait to hear it again. I'll be ready to call legal counsel in response to being disciplined for using my accumulated sick leave.

They are looking at 6 week time periods and you wouldn’t get called if you hit it for 4 or the 6 of them. Makes it tricky if you get sick in the same month you had vacation.

@2twa+1ofTzE2y. Maybe being well over 50 he doesn't care because financially he has enough money to retire (Retirement is a financial # not an age). If you invested your whole life and paid off your house you really shouldn't have to work in your 60s. Sounds like he is riding it out as long as he can then call it quits (retire). For me personally, by the time I hit 55, I should have a couple million invested and a paid off house. If I'm still working, it's not because I have to work. When you get to the point of financial freedom, working is on your terms.

Your Covid illness will be over by the time HR accommodations even gets back to you. They are taking about a week to reply from what I heard and there is no Covid accommodation anymore
If you qualify for FMLA, make sure your paperwork is in order so you can protect yourself

Was told that if you have COVID, you better use your sick time and not expect to WFH. HR is pulling reports and bumping up against Workday. If you worked in office less than the required amount of time, there better be sick, PTO or vacation used for the days not in. No exceptions unless HR approves it.

Remember, tif you don’t want to come into the office to work FT, someone else will replace you and come to work gladly. GS has just required staff to be in office 5 days a week, so buckle up, cupcakes, every company will follow.

Lazy people should be let go.

I know a guy who has not been back to the office since the original lockdown. He refuses to go into the office, despite being told he has to. He is no doubt going to get laid off in the next round of layoffs, as he is making good money as a SVP level, well over 50 and white. He refuses to find a remote job because he doesn’t want to take a pay cut. He might be the stupidest person I know as he is setting himself up to be fired for refusal to come in and no severance for insubordination.

It’s not that difficult to come into the office, people are just lazy. He’s going to lose his job at the worst time in economic history as we are in the free fall right now.

Any conversations you have about this record the call (put on speakerphone and use a voice recorder on another device). Be sure to advise them that you will be recording the call for your own protection.

Contact your attorney and pay them to draft a letter and send to the B2 from the law office. Your attorney should be able to outline past cases where employers were held liable over over sick time violations. It doesn't have to be threatening but if it comes from a law firm it sends a strong message this is unacceptable.

What a way to say thank you for helping us make record profits during the pandemic! Keep doing it but with a lower compensation than before while being constantly belittled by spineless inept management touting "its coming from above"

cold hard reality
it's too bad we don't talk about this more in the media

100% accurate with the purpose of attrition. They are on like round 7 of severancing band 4 and 3 leaders and have been doing crazy consolidations. That with the force of RTW is to be able to control the people they have and manipulate them. It’s sad honestly, I used to love my job. Recently over the last 3 years I’ve never felt more like a number.

RTO is just how they want to create a false sense of fraternizing that goes on. I walk the floor and everyone is still on a Webex. No one sits anywhere near each other for "location strategy". The only fraternizing that really goes on is bro-skism. If you're part of the inner circle club no one could care less if you show up to the office.

For the 95% of us:

  1. The only things growing responsibly are commuting costs, groceries, eating out, and rent.
  2. The only thing flat to declining is salary.

One of the main issues with these directives is their is no written policy that is clear, concise and should not be enforceable. There should be an expectation of transparency regarding corporate policy. LOB, Directives, expectations.. what is the employee handbook for?

A single week. They are looking to make examples, no doubt.

Was it really only a single week you came in 2 days? I heard they are looking for 4 out of 6 weeks to be 3 in the office.

Honestly speaking ... how long do you think it will take the Upper Executive Leadership team to realize that employees are not going to just leave at the pace they need to hit the magic attrition metric. They should eliminate positions of people in leadership at the Band 4 & Band 5 level and combine teams. Thin that heard.

You cannot plan when you get sick 🤧
When was the last time you saw your B2 in person? They are separated from the masses so they can avoid catching EVERYTHING that goes around at work
