Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Were earnings good to justify salary back and benefits back?

Was reading somewhere that intel beat earnings because they played with the numbers.

Will intel be able to pay full salaries and benefits consistently onwards or will have to do salary/benefits cuts again in 2024?

Yes it is true Intel recently extended the depreciable life used for fab equipment. Some say that is 'playing with the numbers'.

Your question has more to do with cash solvency. Last quarter, on a cash basis Intel generated $1B of cash profit after operating expenses... including salaries. However, they invested about $15B in plant and equipment. So, Intel burned a lot of cash.

How long can it go and can they pay everyone?

Well, yes as long as the cash in the bank can support such ridiculous cash burn your salary will be paid. Also, Intel sold bonds in Q1 to raise billions of additional cash.

However, in the end you can see that losing money every quarter isn't going to work so, at some point in the near future Intel will be forced to layoff all the excess people and/or give up on the IFS moonshot.

Intel may obtain the required financial resources to restore salary levels by implementing additional layoffs. A forcing function may be applied to accomplish this by allocating a lower budget to all business units for the next fiscal year.
