Thread regarding Ford layoffs

If team is actively hiring more people ...

Does it mean you might be more immune from getting laid off?

I don't understand how it would make sense to cut a team/ org that is already understaffed and needs more people

@1yfe+1oidD4Ke Yes, and is not just salary. Many people develop expensive medical conditions prior to 65. Best to get them off the Ford plan.

I was let go in a recent layoff and Ford had open job postings that I was qualified for. Positions for which I had training and experience. Apparently good reviews resulting in a higher salary and my approaching pension milestone made me too expensive to keep. It’s not about having open positions, their recent concern seems to be about getting rid of the older more expensive employees.

No, I was hired to a team last July, and our team lost two in August. No immunity.

Billy should move WHQ to Mexico or India. It’s no longer an American co.

Ford has earned a VERY bad reputation as an employer. Only the desperate will accept a job there.

More skilled employees will have better options.

Remember, during the last few RIFs, many highly skilled, experienced people with good performance reviews were terminated without cause. Who would want to work at a place that does that if they had another choice?

May be they just slowly replacing current people by more skilled staff.

No. I'm in a department that has a 5% headcount increase and I was told I'm to be cut because i'm doing everything I was told to do, in January but it won't be enough to keep my job for the end of the year. Completely out of the blue and I'm waiting on what my new tasks are.

This is how it works:

  1. Every cost needs to be reduced
  2. Your department is deemed to cost too much and your department is designated as not having necessary skills and is slowly eliminated.
  3. H1B's have the necessary skills and are hired, which satisfies government requirements.
  4. After learning curve, H1B's will be doing the work satisfactorily at 2/3 the cost.

Not necessarily they could cut the whole unit. Corporations are leaving hiring policies in place while layoffs are happening so as not to make the current regime look as bad.
