Yes, there are many open positions but many more people are applying for them. The companies that are hiring have the luxury of being extremely picky and, sadly, we don't have that luxury anymore. Take this into consideration before you decide to leave without having something lined up.

Glad I left 2 years ago while the getting was good.
Lots of good jobs if you want to drive for Uber, deliver for Amazon, work in the food service industry, bartend, mow lawns and landscape, work a "flex" job that doesn't have full time employment, sell used clothing to Goodwill.... The job market su-ks with so many unemployed tech workers. It's a fu----g joke! On top of that you have to put up with companies' BS of posting ghost jobs to make it look like they are hiring, when they actually aren't. Recruiters ghosting you, etc. Some Indian recruiter wanting you to take a contract job in NYC onsite when you live in Denver or Dallas....
I'm 5 years away from full retirement age and this layoff bullsh-t happens..
I get LOTS of job listings for REMOTE jobs that match my skill set everyday.

Maybe where you live. Move to larger towns. Lots of good paying jobs are out there if you’ve been upskilling along the way. Whining never helps and believing pundits lies just depresses you.
