Corporations, age discrimination hiring & layoff practices

AT&T isn’t they only company using age discrimination. Forbes reporting:

“Eli Lilly settled an age discrimination lawsuit for an undisclosed amount, according to documents filed 10 days ago in an Indiana District Court. This agreement comes just two months after the company reached a $2.4 million settlement with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). In both cases, Lilly was charged with discriminating against older candidates for vacant positions.”

“The EEOC settlement resulted from plaintiffs who accused the company of intentionally under-hiring older candidates for its sales representative positions between 2017 and 2021. According to the lawsuit, Lilly’s senior vice president for human resources and diversity stated at a Town Hall that the company’s workforce was composed of older workers. The senior vice president then announced goals for early career hiring. Afterward, Lilly changed its hiring preferences and intentionally under-hired older candidates for sales representative positions in favor of younger, less qualified candidates.”

You know they are doing the same during layoffs, just like Stankey said AT&T is doing recently, that they won’t post.

I never felt old until this year. Trying to get a job anywhere right now is a pi---r if you are over 40. They want experts who are in their 20's. Good luck. No wonder so many things simply don't work and service is so absolutely horrible.

I make $75 an hour. If Stankey makes big cuts I expect my big check to get bigger.

@aui+1oj8xsJ8. Oh gee your comments will surely stop everyone from filing suit against the company when the boomer ceo told employees he wants old people off the payroll.

Yeah, he makes enough money to be considered elite and will get the better of our 2 tied justice system that we know have in the country. Lady justice will peek and have a different set of rules and consequences for them.

But the lawyers can put a hold on records and transcripts of that meeting. Unless Stankey and crew go the Bleach Bit and Hammer route, there is already a precedent and there wasn’t any consequences.

"Always remember that Stankey specifically said that he was targeting older people for layoffs in front of a live audience."

That is a lie. You have no proof of this, just rumors and innuendo.

We all know what to do, file an EEOC complaint: https://www.eeoc.gov/age-discrimination

They way companies discriminatory practices are exposed to the public is when the employee(s) files a complaint with a government agency, like the EEOC. Otherwise, as previous post said, they payoff and use NDA to keep it silent.

Maybe corporations shouldn’t commit obvious age discrimination, everyone gets old, junior and usually more they are experienced, knowledgeable and productive as a rule. If you listen and show initiative you might learn something from a mentor. Companies want to get rid of senior employees due to $$.

Our society isn’t built like “Logan’s Run”, where people age out at 21 and are exterminated. AT&T has paid for it recently too with one of the execs they let go, she sued and won and there are other examples. Corporations usually payoff when caught, the aggrieved have to sign a NDA’s so it doesn’t get publicit.

Always old people crying discrimination. Maybe you should managed your career better, so you would NEED to work when you're so old. Maybe you should have advanced into senior leadership.
