Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I got laid off with no direction from a supervisor

I've been laid off after just 9 months. The guy that informed me is two continents away and speaks terrible English. My last day is stated for two weeks from the Friday he told me. I'm not going to work or attend any meetings going forward, is that the standard affair? Why the he-l would I finish any work or attend a scrum at 6AM?

"Secretary?"

If this is true your boss is a wu-s.

But I question it. We haven't called anyone a secretary in 20 years.

One of my friends got a teams message from their director stating he had sent my friend a Email. Email stated he was laid off. Class act.

Did you get a random phone call or did they set up a meeting first? Curious how they are coming down these days with the announcements.

The way it worked with me is: I "came" to work (signed in) on Thursday, and saw a meeting invite in my mailbox from a secretary of a manager one level above my supervisor, whom I've never met before. The call was that morning at 11am, not giving me any time to prepare for anything, not that I needed to as I already knew what it was going to be. I got on, this person introduced themselves, mispronounced my name, because they probably only learned of my existence a day before, and very awkwardly proceeded to read from the surplus script. I listened. They asked if I had any questions. I said no, and we ended the call.

I didn't want to hold them up with pointless questions or complaints, I'm sure they had a long list of people to call to that day. At that point, your future is decided, anyway.

After that, I just got emails, followed the instructions, completed all the checklist items. Had some warm last conversations with the team members I was friendly with. And on my last day on payroll, packed up and took my equipment to UPS.

That's it. Last paycheck. Then a severance paycheck. And AT&T is in the past.

For 9 months of service you don’t get squat.

Check the official documentation for anything that makes you ineligible for severance. If you are being paid in the meantime, it could be you have to earn that pay or severance. It's 2 weeks. Might as well be certain you don't jeopardize pay or severance.

" No idea about severance"

Are you completely helpless?

Go to HR One Stop and search on "severance". You'll find the policies there.

You wouldn’t unless you want another paycheck. That means you quit. No pay the next two weeks.

Maybe your supervisor did as well.

What is the severance for 9 whole months of service???

You were hired. You didn’t perform. You were let go.

Fill out the forms and use the portal. There are POC in your portal, use them. Your supervisor is just there to read the script and submit the request to have all access removed on your last day.

No idea about severance. I took that, frankly, insulting online course about how to get laid off and didn't learn much. Online forms said 4% of my salary maybe.
