Ford can also get around the fine for not following the WARN act by paying the severance. From what I read, the government lets them off the hook saying the amount they paid is equal to the fine or some such happy horse pucky.

Conspiracy theory alert
This is from the department of labor website

The term "mass layoff" means a reduction in force that:

  1. Does not result from a plant closing; and
  2. Results in an employment loss at the single site of employment during

any 30-day period for:
GLOSSARY OF WARN TERMS (continued)
28
a. At least 50-499 employees if they represent at least 33% of the total
active workforce, excluding any part-time employees; or
b. 500 or more employees (excluding any part-time employees). (In
this case, the 33% rule does not apply.)

I read this to mean that the company can do lots of little layoffs without having to comply with WARN.

They’re not eliminating layoffs, they’re just not doing them in a sensational fashion that makes headlines like the June layoffs did.

Read Atlas Shrugged and it will all make sense.

That makes no sense that companies postpone layoffs due to politics. Major tech companies have already had very large scale layoffs, and the auto sector is relatively small potatoes. I doubt after hearing of huge layoffs at Amazon, Meta, Google, etc. that the general public cares much about layoffs at Ford or GM. If anything, the public seems to think the auto companies still have too many workers.

Ford appears to have changed tactics to a slow, constant trickle of layoffs. There WERE layoffs yesterday, but it was a few here and a few there. Actually, I’m surprised. Ford never seems to fire people on Mondays.

As I wrote earlier, mass layoffs look very very bad for Bidenomics and Ford is such a political animal that I’m sure they’re doing all they can to make the Regime look good.
