I have an old teammate who is now working in Cyber. They did not have to RTO. He lives in MO or somewhere remote. Appears to be having his best life, travels to security conferences all the time.

Cyber end started when Mo Kaibeh took over. Mo pushed that AlientVault acquisition and then proceeded to chase out the good AV folks. it cost T hundreds of millions. He covered it up with selling third party products with low margin - loved NI to keep the facade going. That’s what eventually got him promoted only to see him demoted after burning hundreds of millions in ill fated BS - Netbond anyone? A glib, self promoting charlatan if there ever was one…

ANYONE that thinks T Cyber is in a good place is a FOOL! 4 buyers bailed out , the last as recently as a month ago. Alienvault was a nice try yet executed in the worst way possible. Clueless direction, incompetent leadership and oh…a marketing and product team that needs their diapers changed 3x a day.
T fired the Alienvault marketing team when they bought it and THAT group was the best thing about AV!!!!
T is so friggin smart. Just ask them! Toggle anyone??????? $5 in the bucket!
Everyone that said no margin and no profitability is spot on.
They tout and $800M revenue division….yet based on the 15-20% margins they get from selling all 3rd party solutions, THAT number is complete bullsheet.
Only arm with a good margin is Consulting, with a few amazing folks, yet many left because they weren’t getting even fair market value.
Those people that stay are just brainwashed by T bullsheet
I can count on 2 hands the people that are still there that are worth the cost it takes to print their ID cards

Down votes are employees in T Cybersecurity trying desperately to find a job in a retail store.

Alien Vault didn't scale ,,,,acquisition was a mistake, poor fit...unfortunately, execs get caught up in excitement of doing an M&A deal without understanding cyber business...

AT&T created a bunch of millionaires and have nothing to show for it.

Could have invested that money in other areas......

Ask any legacy AlientVault employee how it’s been since T acquired it. The resounding message is clear and consistent. T destroyed its credibility in the Cybersecurity space, business has evaporated and T has literally moved on internally from them. So yeah, it’s a market leading proprietary technology no one wants….cool story bro.

The Alienvault acquisition was a colossal mistake and helped lead this business off the cliff....horrible acquisition...bad for employees, shareholders and customers...lots of good people there ---- but not a very competitive business...

“ The Alienvault SIEM is owned by AT&T and proprietary technology. The consulting group is deep in expertise. Anyone bashing this division does have even the most rudimentary understanding of what value is as it relates to cybersecurity assets.”

Anyone writing this works in the organization and won’t tell the real story of a business unit that is operating in such a margin deficit that they couldn’t find a buyer.
BTW , Alienvault … what a joke, T took them from upper right quadrant to lower left.
Yeah you’re right everything is fine there ..lol

Sell what ? They literally don’t have any of their own products. That organization should have an office right next to the T hot tub office. It’s a joke, no margin, terrible billing and awful support.

It is hard to sell something of no value. The value is NOT in the open source software used. The value is not in the employees that pass the buck to the vendors. Sure there are some good people in the group but the overall assessment is bad management chains from top to bottom. The tech skills are not current with industry despite the marketing materials.
