Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Charlie Scharf Masterclass in Avoiding Accountability through subjective (rather than objective) statements.

“We will get it done.”
Who is we? What is it? Define done. When will it be done - is there an ETA?

“Our ability to identify risk and control issues has improved”
Define your version of ability. Which risks? All the risks? When you identify risks, how will you address them? Which control issues? Improved how much, and compared to what?

“We prioritize personal data privacy and have strong safeguards in place to protect the information customers share with us.”
Prioritize over what? How? Which information? What are those safeguards? Define strong. Who has access to which sensitive information? Do third parties have access and how do you monitor that?

“Employees are required to abide by the Wells Fargo Code of Ethics and Business Conduct”. https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/72971/000119312509127827/dex991.htm
All 19 pages of small print? Are you saying all your employees have read all of it? How do you monitor that employees are abiding to every item? What happens if they don’t? Does making your employees sign an Annual Attestation relieve Charlie of all responsibility and put the onus on employees? Do Charlie and the Senior Executives sign an attestation?

“Our employees are our most valuable resource….We continue to focus on making Wells Fargo an attractive place to work.”
Huh, what?? Is “our employees” all the employees, or just the people Charlie and new executives hired? Most valuable - how does Charlie Scharf define valuable and most valuable? Do you value the employees you’ve laid off and are plotting to lay off?? What exact steps have you taken to make Wells Fargo an attractive place to work? Define your version of an attractive place to work. Attractive, compared to what?

I think Charlie needs to partake in some of the Agile Kool-Aid he's making us drink and provide us with a clear definition of done.

Maybe a user story with acceptance criteria would help him figure out what to do?

We could put the work into a sprint and hound him for 2 weeks until it's done.

And then we could have a sprint review to make sure he delivered what he said he would.

Charlie's Question:
What are we doing to keep the air clean and maintain the green environment?

Audience's Answer:
Stop driving to the office so that we won't pollute the air anymore.

@vgq+1omYZFnw So true. The first question from an employee is always like "how can we achieve our DEI initiatives " or some drivel that absolutely not one person cares about and is an obvious planted question. That answer goes on for 10 minutes. The next question is "what are we doing about advancing green energy", again, a planted question that some pre-picked do-gooder will ask. That answer is filibustered for another 10 minutes. Then a question about new technology or whatever and the town hall is basically over.

I remember people would ask good, legitimate questions during the q&a portions, and he'd proceed to answer with absolute nonsense...subjective, meaningless statements, for 5+ minutes until the time ran out. So frustrating to watch. It was like watching a politician with no one to hold them accountable for actually answering the questions.

I've never been able to listen to his town halls. They feel like cult-y brainwashing sessions where nothing that's said actually means anything. And i say this as someone who would normally be interested in hearing what leadership has to say. The more we're seeing jobs shipped off to India and the Philippines, the more these speeches feel like lies.

#where's Charlie?

His speech writer is giving him a script, filled with a bunch of cliche phrases. He doesn't know and he doesn't care about the actual contents. All he cares about is to get paid and avoid the responsibilities.

It's been several years since Charlie came to WF. Things got much worse than before. His job performance rating is "does not meet". But he doesn't care about that, and he is just playing guitar at his home office every day, and complaining that he makes less money than other CEOs.
