They are doing small numbers of layoffs a little at a time so that they do not have to report it see WARN ACT. That way the media does not get wind of the layoffs.

"Interesting thing is that Ford’s “severance” package is actually a purchase."
Recent court rulings have invalidated those strings. Ford couldn't enforce them legally.
if you need the ability to freely criticize the company’s actions <==
Where on the separation package indicates that the participants give up the right to speak on this topic?
Not everyone can get the severance package.
If you were wrongfully terminated by Ford because of race, age, disability, etc. and are suing the company, or if you need the ability to freely criticize the company’s actions, you are not eligible to receive the money.
Interesting thing is that Ford’s “severance” package is actually a purchase. It comes with strings attached. Big strong ropes, actually.
Ford is buying certain behaviors from its fired employees with it.
I wouldn’t consider it a true severance payment if I were in the state government unless there were no strings.
@zkr Ford is doing a combo. There have been a series of small iterative stealth cuts. The larger cuts they rely on the severance to avoid filing a WARN.
The iterative stealth cuts are to avoid the bad optics of asking for government loans under the guise of creating more US jobs all while shipping 85% of salaried jobs to low cost countries.
In other words SSDD more Liar Liar Fords on Fire
That's not how the WARN act works; with salaried layoffs, severance is paid in lieu of the 60 day notice required by WARN.
