Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Corporate culture at Nike

What happened with it? We had a great corporate culture and excellent work/life balance and now it's all gone. Who is responsible for the change? I know it didn't happen overnight but it had to start somewhere.

Bad leadership hires leads to rotting culture.
Innovation is nonexistent, the ashkissers abound and have been promoted to levels far beyond their intelligence.
Seriously passionless and underskilled leadership with no idea about how to treat people humanely.
Hire from the local Gresham to Beaverton pool and get that lack of depth....

I wish JD cared about the stock price

Excellent work/life balance, OP?? How do you get one of those jobs at Nike? Been here almost a decade and would love to work less than 60 hours week if the possibility was ever provided. Maybe I’m just jealous and bitter because I know there are many people here who don’t have on-all-the-time roles. If you ever had work/life balance be thankful because some of us have no idea what that looks like.

MP cared about people and product. He didn't give a sh-t about being a celebrity CEO, he was actually cool, and so the company reflected that. JD only cares about the stock price and keeping shareholders happy and sitting front row at sporting events, so as a result the company culture has suffered.

COVID/Lockdowns/WFH wasn't the root cause but it was the death blow.

It started with the unnecessary over-hiring under MP. Unfortunately the brand didn’t and still doesn’t need this many people across all functions to operate. Processes and decisions would be much less clunky with no wasted time on politics and and infighting.

Jeanne Jackson made the first big dent in the culture. But JD dealt the death blow. Thankfully, the company is strong enough to survive and thrive once he is shown the door.

It started when the suits took over.

It started when 6% year over year growth in the stock price was agreed to be the single most important metric by the board.
