Thread regarding IBM layoffs

IBM is struggling, but AI companies are not doing that well either

I see many trying to blame AI for some of the job losses. That is simply not true. Nobody knows how to monetize AI. AI companies are laying off people left and right. The very idea of AI is making many people uncomfortable and the fact that it's working off of stolen - yes, stolen - data and can't be copyrighted just adds to that. I wouldn't worry too much about AI taking over our industry and causing mass layoffs any time soon.

IBM has been struggling with everything, then start buying companies to play catch up.

Unless it's combined with some novel hardware, AI simply isn't a business. There's no way to build a long term edge in the space. But(secks). I said on the other thread these things ebb and flow over time. It will be the same here.

IBM executives many attempts to create scam buzz started years ago with Linux on Power, cloud computing, Power AI, public cloud, private cloud and many other failed initiatives. Most of the engineers that got ensnared by the hype are mediocre engineers. Sure, they are promoted and handsomely paid. At the end, nothing to show for.
The current scam is the AI hype, when you have some id--ts promoting it with no scientific background.
IBM executives are using AI as a religion to believe in, at the same time, they are su-king the company dry with their fat bonuses.

Overhyped! Just like blockchain was, which I admit despite working on blockchain for a few years

the most likely job losses watsonx will ever cause is the firings of the middle managers that actually spend their own companies' money to buy vaporware.
