Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Is Ford the worst car company based on what I am hearing?

I hear so much bad stuff about Ford from its own employees, news channels and pretty much everyone I talk to about the quality of cars, management, losses on every EV they sell, frequent recalls, frequent layoffs etc. This is an insane environment and I feel sorry for the people who work here. With so many problems how is this company even surviving. Lot of my friends have strongly recommended me not to buy Ford vehicles.

@Op I believe Ford is the worst car company in the US right now. Just the number of recalls prove it. This opinion is not about layoffs, not even about kicking out the best employees to save a pension penny. As others said, that's becoming the new normal now.

My fundamental peeve at Ford is the political games, and how they sc--w with the technical decisions. As an engineer, I provide technical solutions to management, so they can make a decision ($$$). Well, in more than one ocassion my recomendations have gone up the hierarchy, and what came down is not even related. Then my objections are rejected with the "came from upstairs and needs to be done" answer. So we ended with a subpar solution, causing issues and grievances, and while some manager upstair got a promotion or big bonus for screwing the product, we are the ones dealing every single day with the sh!t storm.

Look, there are inepts, brownnosers and political games in all companies. But the huge numbers that we have at Ford are mindboggling. I strongly believe that the government is more efficient, have less political games and have better personnel than Ford, and if you knew how little I think of the government, you'll realize that I felt like I'm in HE-L for the last four years.

Things got so bad under furniture guy, that I was angry and lashing out to my manager (a cunning political animal, who screwed several good solutions and got promoted). I was already thinking of quitting and find another job in 2020. Luckily (or unluckily), as the saying goes, when God closes a door, he opens a windows. My window was WFH. No more dealing with the wrong people at Ford allowed to relax and recover my mental health.

No company really cares about its employees, so why should I put my passion and ruin my health for this company? After all these years, I learned the lesson. I am old enough that I don't need a career anymore, just a job, and that's exactly what Ford is providing me. So I do my work, but I clock out after my 40 hours, and I don't give a sh!t anymore.

TBH, that's the worst that can happen to a company: having a demoralized hopeless workforce that doesn't give a sh!t anymore. Maybe you can understand when a low paid employee in a fast food location is unenthusiastic about his/her job, but when the same happens to well compensated engineers and professionals, that means big trouble. And Ford has many employees feeling as motivated as me, and doing even less work than myself. Employees lost their motivations and hopes, that's why Ford su-ks and we are the worst car company.

Nah, equal at least. Go read about GM or others on this site, you'll find similar. If you really want a drag, read other non-auto Fortune 100 companies boards on this site. They're all playing the same disgusting games. They're greed is doing more for the left than loudmouth pundits ever could.

Out of the auto comapnies to work for No Ford is not even close to work for.

Layoffs happen all the time in this industry ypu should have known this when you decided to work in such a company especially if you live in michigan/ohio. I give no loyalty to any company not even auto company.

@1axy "Tesla cars are much better than Ford EVs."

Let's not get too crazy here. Tesla's build quality is the worst in the industry by a pretty large margin.

As a retired Ford employee, I can say I've seen the best and the worst of the company. We know Ford has the ingredients to kick some @$$ in the marketplace if only the right decision-makers were in the right positions. I can't understand what is going on with the Ford family or the BoD that enables this continuous death spiral of failure and poor decisions. I think Ford employees know in their heart this could be a great place to work and produce great products that consumers desire and want, but the fear of success seems to cripple the company at every turn. Don't blame the people in the trenches.

Tesla cars are much better than Ford EVs. Model e will accelerate the Ford bankruptcy. The company is in serious trouble now. It is the worst managed company and will not exist in few years. DO NOT BUY FORD VEHICLES.

All JF cares about is himself.
The BOD should be ashamed of themselves for letting this cr-p go forward. Tells you a lot about them as well.

Can't understand why they can't build quality cars. The technology is there but for some reason they don't use it. Could be to maintain livelihoods for mechanics.

Op yes. We (salary) employees have seen the BoB (Best of the Best) in CEO Alan Mullally and the WoW (Worst of the Worst) in CEO Jim Farley. I strongly feel Ford will go bankrupt by 2027 with their massive cash flows going out and no cash profits coming in. Consumers don’t want to buy Ford products especially EV cr-p because their taboo. Meanwhile USA employees keep getting fired by the 1,000’s annually and replaced with LLC countries that don’t understand anything about Ford business. These LLC employees don’t care either. Plus Suppliers hate Ford and quote accordingly. Ford CEO is digging his own grave deeper for himself and the entire company each year since 2019. BoD won’t hold CEO JF accountable either. Everything is wrong with Ford Motor Company. It will be gone and join dead ☠️ auto brands like Oldsmobile, Mercury, Saturn.

Their employees have passion.
Gotta remember they came off the high of having a superstar running the company (Alan Mulally) where everyone cared, where it was one-team and now have these folks breaking it down.
Everyone was laser focused building great vehicles at that time.
Would be nice to hav4e him back to straighten this out !
