Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How many hours do you work a week?

I can't get myself under 60 no matter how hard I try. I'm fu----g exhausted.

60 is pretty normal. Eat lunch at my desk or don’t eat lunch at all

Poor quality work in India causing us to work many extra hours.

I am sure India gets full credit for the corrected final output.

There will be panic when not enough expertise left in USA to check and correct the poor output from India.

I work in Beaumont and the last 3 months have been miserable. 60-80hrs a week. Non stop meetings, followed by meetings to discuss what additional meetings we want to have, and then when that’s not working, meetings to discuss how we should be doing better. I work in the refinery and the current situation was known to be coming years ago, and now everyone is shocked what was predicted to happen, did happen. I’m exhausted and it’s only been getting worse. Worst I’ve seen in at least 10 years. Current leadership is abysmal - integration is a disaster and leadership don’t want to listen to feedback and just tell you how much you su-k - directly, indirectly, implied, through others.

They’re going to have to find a lot of new people to tell how much they su-k soon because people won’t put up with this for much longer. I haven’t gotten a thank you since 2 leadership teams ago, despite doing 2-3x the amount of work. Nothing is good enough. Will be leaving whether or not the pay is better. This place has turned toxic.

Same here. Too many free loaders and not enough serious workers. I would love a 9/80 as I always work 10 to 12 hour days.

You're a foolish person and long-winded too.
Takes a half hour to explain how you like your coffee.

I put in 60+ hours per week working every weekend for years because I cared about the quality of my work to make this a better company. I stopped caring eventually after my manager explicitly told me nobody care about what I did. The only thing that matter is to help him get his next promotion. He has little time for people who he deems beneath him. I encounter several more like him over the last few years. They seemed to thrive here. Hard to continue with the work load if motivation is fear. But I’m in control of my destiny so I left this horrible place. If this is example of leadership then I don’t want to see any more. Better to take my skills to another company where it is appreciated and rewarded.

Just made it to NRE this year. I'm exactly like the guy from "Office Space" now. I have a nice little coffee routine in the mornings, then some social rounds which also look like I'm working. Then on some Zoom calls, which is really just spacing out for a couple of hours. Lunch is a nice social affair, usually off campus. A couple things to attend to in the afternoon then some personal things I can do from my phone. Anything I need to do is usually simple, it's all about appearance and confidence.

@crs The U.S. people who have all retired in place aren’t doing much better. I take your point though:

@OP If you’re doing 60 hrs of work a week in the office of any O&G company then you’re getting it all wrong.

Most people I know who are overworked are either in the field or at a facility. The offices are essentially geriatric social clubs with a paycheck. Very little gets done there, and it shows.

@efg He/she said they were at 60 hours by Wednesday AFTERNOON. Which is even less feasible. Even if you work 24 hrs a day on Monday and Tuesday, you have to work another 12 hours before it’s evening time on Wednesday to hit 60 hours.

@uoy, so you put in 20hrs a day Mon-Weds to get 60hrs by Weds afternoon?
I wouldn't trust a planner's thought process & decision-making if that is the case. I still wouldn't even if you are working weekends (15hrs/day Sat-Weds).
When will people learn that this is not healthy and nothing to aim for...

40, learned long ago that it isn’t worth it to do anything more than that.

When I was contracting sometimes I would work more but often was told not to do so because they did not want to pay overtime.
