Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I regret joining Ford

Ive not been here too long but I genuinely regret taking a job here.

I feel stuck in a place where I am surrounded people who are half asleep/ coasting their entire lives ( I haven't met one person who has a commendable career)

Every 2 months, there are layoffs. I have no incentive to even go above and beyond because at best I will get a mediocre pay bump ( we get no stocks and tbh who would want this garbage stock). At worst I will get let go because of some H1B in India who is apparently better than the workers in the US.

There is just a bunch of dysfunction and leadership having no idea what to do.

30 years ago Ford used to be a good place to work.

Since Alan Mulally retired from Ford, the company has been like a circus. Full of leaderships that has no direction to lead.

From CEO to hourly workers, everyone is there because they afraid they can't get hire somewhere else. They just stick around as Quiet Quitters. Hoping for a buyout.

I felt the same way and quit after a couple years working for “Fords.” Living in Michigan was miserable as well, so I moved to California and haven’t looked back. There is life beyond Ford!

"So please do us a favor and get it out of your head that H1B = Indians."
how many people are coming over from Germany again?

i think like 90% of the headhunters are Indian possibly more
and 100% of my science comes from the US

for crying out loud stay in your own country and fix it
so all of us can have more opportunities
the US appears to be in steep steep decline
it looks like it started happening a couple of decades ago
i wonder what happened then

If you are unhappy in your job due to any reasons, just look for jobs outside!! Unhealthy work environment will just damage you, new job will help you expand your skills and outlook too!!

@mon+ Perfect attendance is a stupid thing to reward. Those are the people who come into the plant hacking/coughing and get half the plant sick.

If you are sick, stay the fu-k home.

There used to be acknowledgement for perfect attendance, they dropped that around 10 years ago, it wasn't "fair" to the others. Everyone gets a pony. This is just one simple example, there is no future at Ford for achievers anymore.

Is this the same guy that keeps posting the same sh-t about how.

His career has stagnated because of his co workers?.

Jeezuz.
No way in he-l will I let my career be dictated by my co workers.

Supposed they are coasting.
then it's easier to get ahead wouldn't it?

The only mistake I made at Ford was that I too coasted a little instead of full blown learning more on my own with the free time I had.

I won't make that mistake ever again tho.

If you are not satisfied, please find an opportunity elsewhere. Just FYI before you put up your ignorance on full display, H1B is a temporary work visa approved by the US government for foreign nationals. It includes people not just from India but from many other countries. So please do us a favor and get it out of your head that H1B = Indians. Also like the other d-mb posts that I've been seeing on this forum connecting recent layoffs to outsourcing jobs to India, remember that Ford has outsourced jobs to UK, Germany, Mexico and a lot of other countries.

First, I wouldn't let others define how well I do my job. Regardless of the situation, I always put forth my best effort regardless of who gets the credit, money, promotion, whatever. It's just the way I choose to live my life. I can't do something halfway.

Second, I would look for better opportunities, either with another company or starting your own business. You can then take that strong work ethic with you.

People spend time loathing their existing position or worrying about what will happen tomorrow because they don't have a PLAN. Start with a plan, include what you would do if you were terminated, etc. If you focus on your plan, you won't have time to lament your current situation.

OP, I suggest you look at moving into a Model e position. Great leadership, great projects to work on, and great future growth opportunities.

"The education system taught us incorrectly that merit results in reward."

The sad reality is, if you are a non-DEI person, you will not be allowed to be compensated for your productivity. If you were, then that would be seen as unfair and discriminatory.

So, you will have to go to that place where your non-DEI status gives you the privilege that they claim you have. I don't know where that place is. I've never been able to find it.

@OP+1 "I feel stuck in a place where I am surrounded people who are half asleep/ coasting their entire lives ( I haven't met one person who has a commendable career)"

That does not match my experience. I've met some like this but the majority are hard working and very intelligent.

If you are unhappy there, start looking for something better. There are better places to work and better places to live. Best of luck to you!

Frankly, i think the post covid years have exacerbated this feeling of being in a rut. In the years before, in office, every once in a while I met people that made it all worth it. There are definitely quite a few of such great people around the company. But harder to find them in our current setup. This website does not help make you feel any better, although i keep coming back to it.

When I worked for Ford I was always mentoring and coaching young engineers assigned to my area. Many were excellent people and engineers that were knowledge sponges, almost all of them ended up leaving for better jobs because Ford was so set on promoting woke candidates. Many are now upper management at other suppliers. They had no pension so no reason to stay. This is the sad reality. Ford is cut throat and they are no longer a top company to work for. The upper management are all sociopaths.

Sheesh, I have walked this walk before and like many with a little backbone decided the path I was on didn't meet MY expectations and left. But I did that knowing I had something in the tank. I went grad school, changed another job, finally found my cadence and enjoyed a pretty cool career. You are in charge of you, if you have the energy, the smarts and determination you will succeed. Don't think of yourself as a potted plant. Yes it's hard to seek new opportunities, it's tough to re-define yourself in a company, but if you have the stuff, you can and will go far. First step is to stop wasting time complaining and make a plan.

You like many others are in the same boat. The more you dwell on it the more miserable you will be. The education system taught us incorrectly that merit results in reward. It almost is never the case. I have been down that dark path several times like you. Learning that no matter what you achieve or in what favor you think leaders view you, it doesn’t matter. Do not let this company be the center of your life! You will be left a very empty person. Trust me, I have learned this the hard way through continuous and consistent disappointment. I have saw several bright lights get extinguished by this toxic and pervasive culture. Take solace in the fact that you are not alone. Do not let this company get you down. At this point it is nothing but a contract where you perform menial tasks in exchange for compensation. Have no regrets; it is part of the journey of life. Life is a school, as much as you learn the good things, you will also learn the bad things. All of equal importance and not to regret.
