Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How are our Business Travel Addicts doing?

Business travel is a real addiction. Say hello to our worthy Engineering colleagues whose only ambition in life is to accumulate as many frivolous international business travels as possible. We understand your constant hard work and dedicated struggles to

insert yourself in an international effort/meeting OR
create cheap excuses to arrange international business meetings.

The corporation and hard working productive technical employees understand your addiction and your non-productive existence. May international travel on ExxonMobil dime and an unproductive meeting attending career be your holy grail.

So much time on long haul flights, I don't know how they find time to do any work...

They would still want to travel, even with lack of mileage credit, as they want to take leisure trips on the company's dime. Many love to come to the states specifically to shop. Don't get me wrong - they would definitely be unhappy about not earning points, but they'd still want to travel.

A little history. When airlines first began giving out frequent flyer miles, Exxon didn't want employees gaining any personal benefit. So Exxon used the free miles to reduce future company business travel costs. From reading these posts, I guess nowadays the employee gets the benefit? If so, what if that incentive were taken away today. Would employees still be eager to travel?

Sc--w that I book direct whether it's in policy or not. You get paid whether you're sitting in an airport bar or at the job site. I figure exxon would rather have me at the job site being productive. Even Ray Charles could see that the extra hundred bucks is worth the direct flight.

More business travel long haulers in Europe this week again.............

EM travel are doing their best to discourage travel. Direct flight from Houston to your destination? To expensive. EM Travel insists on booking through multiple destinations with long layovers to save a few hundred dollars. They put me on routes that nobody would choose. The only upside is that all those extra flight hours are more hours not sitting in a Hotdesk on Campus.

People downvoting the post are the psychopaths living off of travel. These people need to be publicly shamed by their colleagues as they hot desk around looking for their next business travel opportunity.

Is this the only reason why there's been so many big wig visitors to Europe over the past few months? Big announcement coming for Europe?

Thank you for exposing our greedy colleagues. We all know someone who is in such misuse and abuse. The word addict clearly defines these individuals. Some of these had serious withdrawal symptoms during Covid travel freeze. They are all back in action again - Bengaluru here I come on “business” class.

OP, you are right. It is surprising how many people we have who are wasting away prime of their lives for some very low quality cheap benefits.

The society has a few doers and then the rest of them are mostly leeches who live a wasteful existence. EXxon employees are no different. Sniffing around and barking for unproductive ex-pat assignments and making up excuses to travel are just some examples of low quality inherent cheapness in some.

I know several so-called made-up Advisors and fake Subject Matter Experts who make trips to BTC and KL, etc., in the name of training and collaborations. You all know what they are actually looking to do.

Donkeys looking for extra business class air travel and hotel points - Chi Ching!

What has happened to once an esteemed and astute company?

Those engineers cannot travel any more. Expected to take 7 am meetings every morning and 9 pm meeting every evening so that they can collaborate with Tech Centers.

Management and supervision don't need their own desk as they seem to be spending most of their time in a business class seat again.

Things quickly go back to how they were for those in the club.

Hey all, you need to get what you can. At the very least, you need to get what you are worth. Anything less, you are a fool or a loser. Sorry. I feel bad for the losers; you need to try something different ASAP. You only have one life.

While you rotated through 20 countries, how's your personal family life? Is your spouse happy or do they pick extracurricular activities while you are away flying on a business class?

I rotated for EM for 35 years across 20 countries working world-class projects as an engineer. It was all business class travel, plus they paid me fair salary ($350k/yr + benefits, based on only 6 months of work/year). Plus, I got a bunch of EM shares which I cashed ‘in the money’. I ended up with a wonderfully flush savings account (after years of packing away the $) and a very cool retirement package.

If EM hadn’t offered such a package I would have moved on until I found the package right for me. I was worth it. But, I didn’t have too. :)

And, yes; I always few business class.
