Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Anyone else hoping for a strike?

Not going to lie, after getting let go in June I’m really hoping the UAW strikes for weeks if not a month or two to stick it to Farles. He goes on Fox & Friends basically saying “we have them a great proposal” when it’s garbage. Him and his leadership team has had their compensation go up 40% over the past 4 years and they want to give the UAW 11%.
I hope they lose billions, if it didn’t blacklist me from any future companies I’d be talking to Shawn Fain to unionize the software people because they’re getting effed with layoffs and constant toxic garbage.

@kzq+1ouacQrV with the company's debt, I'm not sure they could survive it better. Certainly a short strike will hurt workers more, but then when they settle they always get back pay.

The strike would have to shutdown production for over a month to hurt the company. After a month, sales will dry up and it risks the company defaulting on debt. That can end up being a zipper effect as creditors call in their debt. Also suppliers would be the first to stop getting paid and the same thing would happen to them as they start defaulting.

You think people live on the edge, companies are always a month or so away from insolvency. Except for Apple, Google, Amazon, Tesla, etc. The Big Three would have to file for chapter 11 pretty quickly. Chapter 7 is further off but even that wouldn't take as much as you think it will.

Ford has $130 billion and growing in debt. With about $30 billion in cash. So you can see the problem.

Only us hourly people, holding out for a 32 hour workweek plus a 46% raise and COLA and a defined benefit pension! Sm--k me in the mouth with all of it! I want it all! Next contact we are demanding “work from home.”

@kzq Yes, but a strike is the only avenue that might shake up leadership. They need a ball peen right between the eyes before they see the light and I think a 2 month strike might accomplish that. What other alternative is there? Billy is such a green space cadet, he needs a serious wakeup call before he comes to his senses. Hopefully it wont be long before the family tells him to go spend more time with his family. The new guy will come in and send Farley on his way with a three stooges kick in the @ss.

Hoping for a strike is so shortsighted. It will hurt millions. It will likely put the Detroit area into a recession. It will sc--w up auto manufacturing for 6-12 months. It will impact the supply chains, the suppliers, etc. Most of these people are living paycheck to paycheck while making $2000 a week. Their bills will pile up at $500 a week. The company can survive it a lot better than the workers.

I want the UAW to get a good deal, but I also don't think they're upholding their end of the bargain, a fair days work for a fair days pay.

The union gets a bad reputation because they protect all the low performers.

People doing a fair days work should get a good deal. Slackers should get let go.

I kind of do. Though at my new job we'll definitely be affected. But BF needs a wake up call and a lengthy UAW walk out might be the only thing that will do it.

I want the UAW to get a good deal for normal blue collar families. Inflation has gotten out of hand, middle class and below have gotten squeezed. Same applies for white collar employees too, but they have no representation. They just get fired. So on board with the UAW giving them he-l if they don't get an equitable raise. Corporate greed is out of control.

Somehow Ford keeps on hiring management from outside with bloated salaries and no production.

GM’s Bob Lutz was another great automotive guy. He truly appreciated hard working people and you didn’t necessarily need to be an engineer. He just valued hard working, smart people at GM no matter what role or job they had.

I agree totally with this initial post. I was salaried at Ford from 1993-2006. My father was a corrupt union leader in the 1970s and early 1980s in the AFL-CIO, and I was appalled at entitlement and corruption of a small but powerful group of UAW members throughout Ford.

I recall not being able to carry a 2 lb. package mailed to me from the mail room to my desk because it had to be done by the UAW Ford employee who worked in the mail room but was out "sick" that day. I always viewed a union as synonymous with socialism and corruption.

However, I am totally in support of the UAW's fight for significantly higher wages. Most of the line workers are hard working, honest people doing very difficult work that can lead to health problems later in life.

Ford has had no problems paying incompetent dunces $10 - $20 million annually to conjure up strategies that a junior high school student would find comical. Look at the swag of Ford's superstar CEOs since 1994: Alex "Reorg" Trotman, Jac "Fred Sanford" Nasser, Bill "Earth Saver" Ford, Mark "South Beach" Fields, Jim "Office Furniture" Hackett, and Jim "EV Pole Position" Farley. Allan "Common Sense" Mullaly should have had a lifetime contract as CEO since he was the only competent one.

Alex "Reorg" Trotman's Ford 2000 byzantine masterpiece, which was needed like a hole in the head, had most employees focused on "reporting lines" than on designing and producing high quality vehicles.

Then along came Jacques Nasser, who changed his name to Jac after becoming CEO, that wasted billions buying Land Rover, Volvo, quick change oil shops, an electric bike company, and junkyards. He should have changed his name to Fred Sanford-Nasser. Fred Sanford and Jac had the same amount of business acumen.

Then came Earth Saver Bill, scion of Henry Ford. His biggest automotive accomplishment prior to becoming CEO was ensuring the Dearborn Truck Plant was designed for trees and grass to grow on its roof.

Mark Fields rode the corporate jet for free down to the world's automotive capital, South Beach, Florida, every weekend for inspiration.

Jim "Office Furniture" Hackett ensured Ford's had interior decorating credibility in theautomotive marketplace.

It took EV Pole Position billions of dollars and a 3-day trip to California to realize that EVs have long charging times and insufficient range to be practical for most consumers.

Compare these clowns to the great automotive men who came from the Big 3 in the past: Henry Ford, Lee Iacocca, Don Petersen, Walter Chrysler, DeLorean, Cole, John Delorean, Knudson, etc.

Reorg, Fred Sanford, Earth Saver, South Beach, Office Furniture, and EV Pole Position couldn't wipe those guys' rear ends when they were alive.

Op sorry to hear JF ford plus plan fired you. I hope you will do much better at another company that appreciates and treats you better.The union also deserves 40% raise, plus 4 day 32 hour workweek + Cola !
