Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

So Sad

37 years with this company and they dump me and 5000 others to a company called Hindustan Computers Limited (aka HCL). For a 1 year contract and then what?

SF people just ending 6th month post-rebadge. It was around 800 people and at the time the largest rebadge HCL had done. Verizon is the new largest at 5000.

Our onboarding was one of the worst things I have ever experienced in my career. You'll get email telling you to do something, but it won't work or the steps they give you aren't right, and then when you finally do finish it, they'll tell you they don't have record and make you submit screenshots and update excel spreadsheets. At one point, they went in and stole a day of vacation out of everyone's floating holiday bucket and it took over 2 months to get it back.

If it was that bad for us with 800 I can't imagine how bad it's going to go for your company.

We recently had a town hall with our account execs (2 of 3 were rebadged with us) and were notified that they plan to offshore a significant, but unquantifiable, amount of work to India and Phillippines after March 1 (our 12 months). We were told if our position is offshored that they will "do their best" to place us elsewhere within the organization, otherwise we will need to find a new job with a new company. Not what they told us during the onboarding meetings at all.

They're all liars. Get whatever retention/sign-on you can and start looking elsewhere ASAP. This won't be a long term arrangement for you.

I plan on grabbing my lump sum pension and 401k as quickly as possible to invest in a personal IRA. Then I’m taking the unused vacation pay, full STI and stock together funds which should amount to around 50k and pay off the kids college loans. This is a blessing to those of us that are retirement eligible and wanted a RIF.

Google HCL rebadge of Zerox, State Farm and IBM and read the words of the employees. Most were kept on for the promised year (while they trained their Indian counterparts) and then layed off exactly 1 year after arriving. Stay on for the year for the matched salary, STI and retention bonus, but start job hunting in Sept 2024 so you can move on.

NO LOYALTY these days. RUN and save yourself. Google INFOSYS. They did the same thing by acquiring Vanguard employees and Infosys stuck it to those employees after a year. You can do anything you want and never ever be scared of CHANGE! Best of LUCK!

37 years of time in the company that ever since becoming vz and likely before has had constant RIFS. You’ve had 37 years to build a retirement plus a more than a decade into a pension most people don’t get.

You now know your end date and have over a year to prepare for it which is far more than most people get.

Make sure you use your time to look for a new job or new career.

I am affected too, but hey, the world is going down fast these days, so the last thing to bother about is a job.

When VZ use to have a facility at DFW airport we had a group of 600 who were mapped over to IBM. They remained in the building and continued to lease the space , however after 1 year they were all released! I worked for fleet then and they moved us out of the facility. Now I moved into another role at HR. Get ready they want that institutional knowledge!!!

It's not realistic to work for a firm 37 years or more these days. The world is different now. If you have, lasted that long, enjoy it and appreciate it. The next culling of employees will be huge this Fall! VZ has way to many long term employees and we all know a massive reduction is coming!

In 2018 VZ signed a 1B deal with Inf0sh!t. They did the same with thousands of experienced, veteran US VZ employees and forced them to Infy for a year. Our stock in 2018 was around 50. Now it is in the 30s. What has Infy accomplished over the past 5 years? Do they have any results/accomplishments to show? The VZ Execs from India (Shanks, Sammy, all the Indian VPs, Indian Exec Dirs, etc) made a ton in kick backs from the Indian Government and Infy over the past 5 years. Now they will make even more with HCL. But, Karma is a b-tch. Can't wait for her to show up.

For 1 year they will use you for your knowledge. Then If they can find a way to offshore your role for pennies on the dollar they will. Good Luck!

A lot of former teammates have been with the company many years like you and were also sold off. Truly sad and they're scrambling trying to figure out their next move with retirement, etc. I feel bad for employees who reluctantly took the vaccine under duress in order to keep their job and the company betrayed them by just kicking them to the curb.
