Is this a setup by Pioneer to get a higher price? ExxonMobil needs to walk away from making any deal now. It would be tainted.

I think there is probably a 0% chance the production and reserve numbers aren't inflated. Hard to say by how much. But Pioneer is kinda in the habit of drilling shale wells in Permian that underperform. I would think Exxon is smart enough to not overpay for this type of nonsense but I don't know. The market is kinda demanding they do something loud.
@OP Nah. The guy who got arrested is by all accounts a toxic douche/horndog who was arrested at the scene - meaning a crime was either in-progress or had just occurred when the cops showed up.
