Well if you follow AUTOLINE one of their regular guest a Labor expert from Wayne State. Prof Marek? Stated he felt Ford is pretty much an independent family run company with less than 5% of the global market might be the first to go inside of 10-20 years.
Another guest commented on JF statement that Ford expects savings for the battery cost to drop once they open the 2-3 battery plants. Another professor stated he had a hard time believing that since the demand for those rare earth metals is expected to go up.
So with Ford depending on the F-Series with an avg. transaction price over $60k it is hard to believe Ford can survive given they are pricing their customer base right out of the vehicle.

makes you wonder if a small battery pack and ICE hybrid is the way...

Folks with Hybrids love them.. Battery pack fires could be containable and even have an onboard suppression system.

If you bother to look at the implications of the upstream requirements to make the whole EV thing work. You quickly see a couple of things: Costs for raw materials are going up because of scarcity and lower grade ores making EV's even more expensive, and the cause is the battery packs. According to the US Government's data they require a half million pounds of refined ore which is expected to grow as sources require more concentration. Add that to the fact that the US safety regulators like FMVSS and NHTSA would never allow the thermal runaway stuff that is going on in China to occur here. If you haven't been bird-dogging the issue: China has been experiencing a lot of battery fires that have knock on effects. I agree with Ops point. This path will crush the industry. It won't go away but there is no way the capacity - jobs - will be there on the other side with an all or nothing plan.

Ford will last 2 more years and will file for bankruptcy. The time has come to completely wipe out the Union. This is the only for automotive company to survive in the US.

Start all over without union. The company will be prosperous.

Two decades? I am not sure Ford can last for 2 years more. Who cares anymore? "Leadership" has sacked the people that cared about the company. Doing the right thing is grounds for dismissal/layoffs.
