Oct 19th and Nov 17th are dates for layoffs
Expect more layoffs in C&E, either eoy or first half of next.
I’m union
Can’t be laid off
Can be terminated, but even that is hard
Can be offered money to go away
If I don’t go, then surplus
If I still don’t go, some low seniority person has to move to Fresno, so I can keep my job.
Are people just getting worried because they are violation the COBC by not RTO?
I laugh at trolls and the uninformed. AT&T has always had layoffs and hiring happening at the same time, they compartmentalize on purpose, rarely is their mention of any layoffs in the news. They plan it that way and also to avoid the Warn act if possible.
The last several years has been different because of massive leadership failures and terrible miscalculations. They have gone from being a Blue Chip Aristocratic to looking under the couch cushions to meet free cash flow projections. CEO John Stanky had to announce the 15k layoffs this time because, Wall Street isn’t fooled by his and Stephenson’s fuzzy math anymore. The result over the past decade has been the selling of assets/companies, spin-off poor performing companies, lowering of dividends, stock price dropping to early 90’s levels, elimination of many benefits, change in policies, not backfilling due to attrition, increase of span/control, low employee morale, poorly thought out plan of Hubs and massive (over time and spread out) layoffs.
It’s one of the 52 weeks of the year.
There is always layoffs going on weekly in some area of the company.
You can count on that!
If you haven’t been already, it’s time to start putting back some money for the upcoming contract negotiations. The C-suites and stock fund owners are greedy and will do everything to hold onto their gains off of labor. They have only became more enriched through the pandemic and high inflation, while all labor has been going in reverse for decades in benefits and wages. Need much bigger wage increase, COLA, much better retirement match and benefit premiums, deductions and out of pocket expenses.
Don’t believe any trolls that say bargained can be replaced easily, there are too many skill positions for them to back fill, even for a short term strike. Happened in the 2019 negotiations for the SE, company team wasn’t bargaining in good faith so there was a strike. Company changed tactics quickly, flew in a new team of negotiators, negotiated fairly and settled fast.
Layoffs are done for 2023, with the exception of targeted ringers, some will be fired and some laid off.
Next bargained announcement is Dec 15 per contract, management at least one more before year end. Time for the Merry Christmas/Happy New Layoffs! Then rinse and repeat for next year.
I believe the MOA for bargained outside techs will expire at the end of 2023 so, expect to see some targeted surpluses for them. D3/SE contract will expire late 2024 so maybe a strike for better raises, lowered healthcare premiums and retirement adjustments. It’s been happening around the country due to super high inflation and more wealth going to the corporations and elite.
I've heard from a few people in Mobility something is coming in the next two weeks
