Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Time in the office

Hearing rumors they are going to start tracking time in the office. 6 hours will be required for it to count as an office day. Welcome to 1984!

I’d suggest a different path. Work extra hours, become exempt and impress managers. The money will follow. Instead of counting minutes, focus on achievements. You’ll stand out and be well rewarded. It worked for me with no friends in high places. A toxic and negative attitude will sink your career both here and elsewhere.

@5wlx, PLENTY of non-managers get bonuses.

Painful to read these grammatically tortured posts.

Current report runs 10/2-10/27
take how ever many potential work days during that time (sub tract days off, holidays, etc) & multiply by 60%. Round down. & that’s what you need to be in five that 4 week period.

So if you have 1 day off. Total eligible days is 19 days not 20) x .60 = 11.4. So 11 days in office.

That's asinine.. so this only applies to management is what you're saying, since non management positions don't receive bonuses?

All these whispers through the grape vines are just super frustrating. I give my 150% at work and I’m here 50+ hours weekly grinding away. I don’t hate my job. I enjoy it more than most but I can’t get pass the return to work movement. It’s exhausting. If they move to 4 days or start keeping track of how many hours we are in the office then I’m going to lose it.

"TN employees are working from home. There is no accommodations for them at TPC.
Only essentials workers are there.
Some people are being asked to move to Lake Mary or Pittsburgh"

I remember times when people were asked to move to TN from other locations (NY, NJ).
Some did. Some of those are even still with the company. If the above is true, I would think twice before moving for the job with this bank, unless it's a location where there are decent chances of finding another job should yours be RIFed.

@1mei+1p37Eoi8, It must be thrilling to ride the train in your big boy pants, knowing you have a yummy casserole waiting for you in the warming drawer.

They would need to revise their procedures before implementing this completely pointless idea.

And to the individual who was talking about participation trophies, coming into the office is a perfect example of a participation trophy, especially since the ones in the office the most usually do the least.

Generations worked 60 hour weeks, but they were paid by the hour… You’re a mo--n, if you work more than 40 hours here. You’re working for free while neglecting other parts of your life.

& this place does not care about you at all

No it doesn’t have to be in writing. You were hired to come into work. Nothing has changed but your sense of entitlement after 2 years of COVID Netflix.

This is a welcome change. Generations upon generations worked 60 hour work weeks plus a commute and the 37.5 workweek is laughably light. Have you ever paused to consider how very good you have it?

Oriskany building has a scan-out device requiring id scan before exiting building. I got bad news for your lazy a**: now that company has closed Oriskany location they are transferring its scan-out device to YOUR location! Make sure you spend 8 hours in the office at least 3 days a week (soon 5), and your location doesn’t accept medical exemptions with a fake doc note!

i was confirmed from a senior person it is 8 hours and they will track your IP address if you cant scan out. Failure to comply will forfeit min 50% of your bonus or even all of it.

They're going to have difficulty tracking that in facilities that don't have "scan outs". But certainly it can be done.

@fbc+1p37Eoi8 - seeing you had to mention Oriskany I figured I’d school you. Oriskany isn’t the only location full work from home. Surprise! Other smaller locations were closed months ago too with more to come . and guess what? Also work from home so now you can get over it

I really do not know how they can enforce it _practically speaking_ . Most of the employees start the day early with so much engagement happening from India (this has to be at home, on the way to work not in the office ). May be for Operations, business this may apply but not for technology.

End of the day, this will all boil down to the standard _mantra_ - manager's discretion. If you are valuable your supervisor will bat for you even if you swipe in and out.

If the management (aka manager) wants to get rid of you, not being in office may become one of the easiest excuses to find. Just hanging on to your desk for 10 hrs a day does not get you an edge .

Doubt it. The prior rumor, which was not true was we were going to be four days a week after Labor Day.

Mandatory five days in the office starting 2024 unless one has a medical exemption or is from Oriskany.

I’d advise a different approach. Why not recommit to your job, work hard and get promoted? People’s own attitudes here are ki-ling their careers. It’s painfully obvious.

No it doesn’t have to be in writing, and we have employment at will both for employees and the company. I’d advise a different approach. Why not recommit to your job, work hard and get promoted? People’s own attitudes here are ki-ling their careers. It’s painfully obvious.

Been hearing this rumor for a couple months but nobody’s confirmed it

There was a manager on this board about a week ago that confirmed that the September dashboard only measured badge swipes
