Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Do we think RTO will be enforced last couple weeks of the year?

I ask because I would love that extra 3 hours a day (commute) back with my family at least around the holidays that I had before RTO.

My wife had a baby earlier in the year so unfortunately I’m out of PTO.

I hope so. I would like to sleep in, run my person errands and not work.

Absolutely not, no chance they will monitor employees for RTO. Stankey has decided to turn a blind eye to all RTO activity through the rest of 2023.

"THIS IS NOT PERSONAL HOLIDAY TIME! this is for caring for sick family members"

If the time is being used to care for a family member -- they don't need to be sick -- you can use caregiver time.

Calm down.

You’ve gone through a minimum of 23 vacation days, 12 weeks of paid parental leave, and 2 weeks of caregiver time? Now you don’t want to go to the office because those 19 weeks of paid time off were not enough? You have been paid to take off over 1/4 of the year.

There's nothing special about the end of the year. In fact, you may find that it's easier to be in the office while all the people who didn't take their PTO and vacation while you were out are taking theirs before the end of the year. Used to be a guy who would take pretty much the entire month of December after he didn't take it all year bc of project deadlines and working around other people's time off. Of course, if you needed info from him and didn't get with him in the first 11 months of the year, you were SOL.

Thanksgiving week may be interesting. With two holidays that week, everyone will have to be in the office the same 3 days that week.

I laugh every time I think back when JS robbed the employees of their PTO and how he granted us additional holidays. Having worked in IT / OPUS, etc -- Thanksgiving is an important time of the year for sales. T has a Change Restriction in place because it is so important, yet Stank thought it would be a good idea to have a company holiday on Black Friday (can we still use that term?). He went on to say rather than have folks taking random PTO days (that week he took away) he preferred they be exchanged for fixed holidays (2 less days by the way) so that we would know when each other was in the office. I am not kidding - he went on to say it becomes difficult to locate people / get stuff done when they take PTO, every one being off different days. Not sure how he could justify that since folks still have a large number of other PTO days where everyone is out at random times.

OP, you implied you are out of PTO because of the baby - are you aware of paternity leave and the care giver days?

If you are a manager and have more than 6 months service you can take 12 weeks of Paid Parental Leave. Be sure to check into this and you don’t have to use it all at one time, you must use 2 weeks at a time. You have up until the child is 1 year to use this.

Why don’t you apply for 12 weeks of paid parental leave? Why not move closer to your office? Why do you burn up all your PTO earlier in the year?

Absolutely not, Executive Management have been instructed to ignore monitoring of reports for door scans and corporate Lan activity for the rest of the year. Do what you want the rest of 2023, it's like getting a free ride! Ven better, it's like getting an early Christmas gift from Stankey.

“So you used up all your PTO, caregiver leave and paternity leave?? And now you need the company to cut you some slack.”

How is inquiring what the RTO policy may be across the board for everyone me wanting the company to cut me some slack personally? Leave, troll.

"in the mornings and commute home at lunchtime, finishing up the day at home."
Until they start looking at reports on LAN/VPN time.

Interesting.

I’m guessing you are also one of the high performing employees on your team, when you are actually at work.

I understand your position -- perhaps its best to have this conversation with your supervisor. I realize its going to su-k commuting that far during a time where so many are out of the office, so "collaboration" will be non-existent. As a small concession, perhaps plan to work in the office in the mornings and commute home at lunchtime, finishing up the day at home. I realize it still stinks, but its better than nothing and it'll keep your name off a non-compliance report.

Why should they have to enforce it. Maybe they’ll just deny bonus and raises to those who didn’t abide. Who knows

RTO is not about your personal advantage. It is about ensuring consistent maximum performance across the company. Stop trying to take advantage.
