Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I wasted two years of my life at AT&T

I'm happy to say I will waste no more. I got a new job and I'll be happy to leave in two weeks without ever looking back. I don't think there's anything positive I will remember about this place, other than having great coworkers. Everything else was one disappointment after another.

awesome you made the right choice. there is no future at att. I hope you help folks coming out of college to avoid the place like the plague.

I also did like the workers when I started but when people are trying to stay employed and save their jobs they will turn on you and stab you in the back even though you could of done the same years ago.

there are no companies managed like att. you will be so much happier and actually work with people that truly appreciate you and are much better to work with because there won't be a constant threat of surplus or layoffs. you won't ever hear the word surplus again. you will actually get rewarded for work and actually might get a promotion.

Congrats, don’t pay attention to the angry comments. We are jealous that you don’t have too much time in and don’t have much to lose leaving, and you are still young and have your life and opportunities ahead of you.
Most people here are miserable, and have too much invested to leave. I have 23 years and have 7 more to go. I was surplussed when I had 15 years in a cushy job and sent to work for a psycho for years. She finally retired. I was courted for 2 management positions, one for Techsupport and when things were getting into place they surplussed the group, and the other, the new department was cancelled. So no job is exactly safe anymore.
When I started 23 years ago this was actually a pretty good place to work. Most employees enjoyed coming in, and as long as you did your job you were left alone. It’s gotten progressively worse. I think that is the cause for bitterness. But there comes a time where you have enough time in and have to weigh starting over and losing vacation time, and pension money on the table. So we stay, and endure. I’ll be 51 when I get my 30 years, and may decide to start a new career somewhere else depending on if my body holds up, and how bad this place gets. If you have youth and low seniority, get out now. Staying is a gamble, it may get better, it may get worse. And if you sit behind a computer, AI, and outsourcing to other countries are coming for your job.

To the OP: Your announcement simply proves you're smarter than the troll trying to insult you or defend T.

Good for you and enjoy life again!

Salute to leaving on your terms. Surely, you won't miss crowding in a conference room to hear if you're on a surplus list.

Good for you. Seriously, you are doing the right thing especially if you’re younger. Get that stepping stone on your resume with experience and find a better opportunity. Nothing wrong with trying different places and giving them 2-3 years and moving on. Thats about the life expectancy at any job anymore. As you get a bit older 3-5 years is what you’ll want to target before moving on. There is no benefit staying with one company anymore given there isn’t a pension plan. If you aren’t moving up, getting good raises or just love what you do, find somewhere else. I’ll be following very soon after 12 years here. I should have left 5 years ago.

"...It's spoiled, ungrateful, trophy seeking id--ts like you that ruined this company."

Yes. They ruined the company. In 2 years.

Executive leadership had nothing to do with it.

Good riddance, don't let the door hit you in the a-s. It's spoiled, ungrateful, trophy seeking id--ts like you that ruined this company.

Pay no attention to the ignorant comments below. They obviously don’t work here and are just a bunch of losers looking for attention.

Congratulations! Take it from someone with 23 years. You’re doing the right thing. Working for a company that is dying and not growing is no way to start out a career anywhere. Best of luck!

Well, you surely enjoyed them paychecks too, right? Otherwise, I don't understand why anyone would waste a day, something clearly was still beneficial about this arrangement.

And yeah, don't feel bad about 2 years. Most of us are gone after 15, 20 years and more. For no good reason.

2 Years that's it? You just wasted my time reading this. Sound like a Generation Z.
