Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Leader CheckIN today

Talent assessment 2 x year and employee will be able to see talent assessment results in workday. Employee has to acknowledge talent assessment results with manager.

You own your career so it’s NOT your managers responsibility to promote you, it’s yours to get promoted.

Lots of hybrid work talk. Lots of metrics that show GenX and boomers leaving and millennials and GenZ joining (+11). 37K employees joined during the pandemic. 38k left.

Lots of talk about high performance culture. So seems to be an attempt to raise the bar and weed out low performers and rest and vest 20/hr week people. Talent assessment and evaluation performance assessment is as much to discover low performing people as high. V2MOM has lots of eyes now and your VPs will be checking it.

People still come and go into Cisco as Cisco looks good on their CV. The problem is that as more an more people realize how messed up Cisco leadership is, and how we pretend to do innovation, and how we pretend to do AI, Cisco on your CV will one day do more harm than good if this trend continues. What trend?

Face it, we don't innovate any more, we acquire it. We outsource AI and call it our own. He acquire instead of develop. Very sad! On top of that, we say how important our people are, yet we have an undeniable trend of hire/hire and acquire, and then LR good people. We hire outside executives instead of promote from within (MM's boss) and we the LR proven leaders. The people that get hired/promoted are only those who kiss up to the Exec leadership.

When are people going to catch-on? Just look at how we have treated those who got LRed in the past! Nobody wants to be seen associating with them. It is so bad it has become who we are. It is a great place to work if you are in HR, as we need more people to manage all the cr-p that is going on, so HR grows, and the rest of the orgs shrink. I hope we hit the end of this road we are on before long!

Lots of talk about high performance culture.

Does this mean you need to do four checkins a week with a one line printf now? It's like that line from The Jetsons: "I had to push the button on and off five times."

Or why work your b-m off to be LRed or have no pay raise or RSU.

To put a roof over your head and food on the table, unless of course you live in one of those places where the government does this for everyone.

As a friend of mine at Cisco said, regardless of pay if you're skills aren't growing they're dying. Slacking alone usually leads to dying skills and that's a bad place to be if you want more pay and RSUs, be it from Cisco or elsewhere.

MM is an absolute failure . Of course the diversity garbage is protecting her along with a whole class of incompetent clowns. You can fire a middle aged white guy easily. Try it with someone in that protected class. There are 2 sets of rules there.

LR'd five years ago. New company has had consistent raises year-after-year. Little nonsense dev culture with somewhat sweatshop-like culture but now making ~45% more than leaving Cisco pay. Plus good bonus every year. Miss napping at Cisco work-from-home (be honest folks); but yes the +++ pay is out there if you look and can execute.

If they're looking at V2MOM's, then they need to make them mandatory across the entire company and not just under MM. My V2MOM is a copy & paste of my manager's and has been for several yrs. The same applies to our entire team. If they let people go based on the V2MOM, our entire team from Sr Director down to IC's will all be gone.

Cisco pay isn't competitive enough to retain high performers. Why would anyone work their a-s off at Cisco when they could do the same at most companies for 50-100% more salary?
