Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Can AT&T Management get it....dead weight and TPS reports.

There are many people in our company that do not much work at all.
Just meetings and opinions.
They are dead weight, waiting for others to do real work.
There are 8 people that I report my work...they do nothing unless I do something,
then they start emailing about it...as if they did it.
External suppliers too, nobody doing much work there either...just meetings.
And my Level 3 and 4 boss (300K and 400K) do nothing (add 8 Level 2, +200K)
...So there AT&T...there is your dead weight. Figure that out...not swipes.

And where is my incentive?

"It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now, if I work my a-s off and
Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime. So where's
the motivation? And here's another thing, Bob. I have eight different
bosses right now!"

AND

"Sounds like the many Project Managers that don't do much but chase my work."

I feel that. The problem here at AT&T is that over a period of more than a decade, they stuck just about everyone that they didn't know what to do with after many reorgs into some type of "project management" title and role.

And yes, many of these non-technical folks jobs simply involves providing reports. And the worst of them, as reported above, don't actually even compile any of the info themselves. Someone else does. And they simply forward it. These people are not "project managers". Their titles should be changed immediately to "email forwarder".

It is frustrating for those of us "real" project managers (yes, it is a "real" thing, project management)...those of us that trained for that role, maybe earned a PMP certification outside of T and do all of the stuff to keep it current. I don't wish to be lumped in with the email forwarders. Yet here we are.

I have 5 bosses 2 direct 3 indirect- when I finish the tps report they hand it in up separate chains of command JVB, Rick and Alicia all get the same reports presented 3 ways by the L3’s and L4’s I give it to-
I’ve trained the last three Bob’s and now Bob’s team wants to hire me - my question is who wants my job?
Hand off reports to vp’s you trained so they can get trips to diamond club and u get to commute into the dish-t den at 208 S Akard.

If all this dead weight exists, why not cut from the top? Corporations give extravagantly more to their CEO's in conjunction to their lowest level employees. C-Suite execs should only receive a percentage and not a order of magnitude above the average employees wage.

It’s always been like that at Initech. The Bob’s are working on it. Don’t be upset when the last piece of cake is not yours.

If I do any epic amount of work, ( well above and beyond what my title should be doing ) I might get an " atta boy " out of it while the mgmt folks above me take all the credit and add it to the list of things they accomplished for the year when it's time to divy up the bonuses :|

Sounds like the many Project Managers that don't do much but chase my work. Also Sales and SP all chaing each other's sales. Yup, lots of dead weight. Bad metrics drive bad behavior.

L2s do not make 200k and L3s and L4s do not make +100k at each level.

I know several L2s making less than 100k, also know several L2s on the high end of their salary band that make within 5k of their L3 boss
