Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

2024

I keep hearing that 2024 will be a year of stability. That there will be only minor changes to limit disruption. Should we believe that? I’ve only been at the globe for 3 years. Has it always been this chaotic or is there times when the ship sails smoothly?

Find your next employer while you are still with AT&T. The layoffs will continue. The multi-billion dollar debt won't be paid off for years. When the GATT rate improves you will see retirees streaming out of the company, if they haven't been laid off. Good luck.

Yes, believe it or not. Those days are long gone though. Blame Randall Stevenson for this. First it was the failed T-Mobile acquisition then it was the bad idea to buy DIRECTV. Since then it’s been a headache because they don’t know how to right the ship. They brought in all the DIRECTV executives and they clearly don’t know what they’re doing. They are trying to cost cut at a massive level and it’s hurting business as well as the employees pockets because they don’t want to pay the employees what they’re worth. Hopefully it will get better

Now it was confirmed that layoffs will spread to AT&T Canada & Europe…. And specialized support contracts are not being renewed!

"Just goes to show you your just a number on a balance sheet no matter how long you've been there or your work performance. Getting the result of layoffs without saying we are having layoffs to the media. " --- whoever posted this congratulations. You just exceeded in the 2024 company goal of 'cultivating the company culture'. For what you stated is certainly the true culture of this company with current C-suite in charge.

Union workers are not immune. You may notice as natural attrition occurs in those workgroups, hiring and backfilling has been reduced or eliminated.

This statement couldn't be further from the truth! Every time our team looses a tech for whatever reason, a new job req is posted and another technician is hired!

Well They are moving into phase 2 of How and where we work...non union workers will be expected to go a hub or spoke site...which is 4-6 different places mainly Dallas or Atlanta. Just goes to show you your just a number on a balance sheet no matter how long you've been there or your work performance. Getting the result of layoffs without saying we are having layoffs to the media.

Oh boy! I was there just under 24 years. There was never a year that we didn't have some layoffs. There was always chaos. I was laid off 3 months ago - frankly I am glad. If you have only been there 3 years, I would cut bait and RUN NOW! Good luck

Just read the sign over the door as you enter AT&T. "Abandon all hope ye who enter here." For the last couple of decades, there has been no stability at AT&T.

Until leadership can outsource all work to third world countries and contractors the lies that are employees are our most valuable assets this will continue.

The dates mentioned below are management surplus dates, not union. The pre notification, whatever that is, for the 1/22 date is 12/20. Names to be finalized on 1/8. The remainder of the year follows the same cadence.

There are 12 surplus dates on the 2024 calendar. It does not mean they will happen, but they are on the schedule.

It's interesting how at T, stability is perpetually a year away. It's almost like Xeno's paradox where T keeps getting closer to that goal, but will never, ever achieve it.

Especially as long as Stink is in charge.

Chaotic? This is really very normal. Or has been the past 40 years.

"You will only have stability if living your designation and moving to Atlanta or Dallas."

Even then, you're only maybe...just maybe....1% more stable

Maybe when we’ve been gutted to under 100k employees. But no, 2024 will be more of the same. Personally I have a suspicion that the bosses are trying to sell us off to maybe a Google or Amazon.

If this is true, do the math. The implementation of new or expanding technologies will impact some departments dramatically. Just the increase in fiber deployment will or should have a dramatic decrease in work content for the Network departments that depend on copper for a lot of their work load.
“ There is revenue generated per employee which is total revenue divided by the number of employee's. I saw somewhere recently that AT&T was in the $700k range per employee and T mobile and Verizon were over the $1 million range. To get AT&T numbers up either requires more revenue or less employee's. Guess which method AT&T is currently using?”

Not sure where you’re hearing that. 2024 will have a similar pace of surplus as 2023. Again, the target for total headcount is 75k by 2025 fiscal year end.
