Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Can management be converted to union?

I just talked to a guy who’s an engineer with GN&T. He said his group was riffed but they were offered senior tech jobs in the union. The choice is leave or convert their annual salaries over to union, bridge all their time, get union benefits ect …
This sounds like BS or too good to be true. Has any manager ever transitioned over to union and not take a cut in pay?

@upp+1pCJnyp4 I'm not sure having your pension frozen and eliminated is a promotion...but you obviously see this differently.

However, management can be converted into the Union but they're going to have to accept the company reinstating pensions and those whom the company froze their pensions will have to agree to let the company begin to add again to their frozen pensions.

They will also have to agree to overtime hours pay and 11 holidays off...Yes, you will have to stay home with pay on election day... sorry but it's in the contract.

Yes, the Union employees have a contract with the company that clearly defines protections, working conditions, and agreements including ( oh I hope you are sitting down ) a no-layoff clause...that's called work protection, which the contract is full of for the Union employees.

I don't know about you but if all that is a demotion?.....then demote me today!

Is not the employee who is union.. it’s the position that is bargained for. A “mgt” employee can move into a bargained for role

Don't bother converting. They don't want anything to do with my b0nus h0le. They only want beards brushing their thighs.

To good to be true. My boss would go union in a heartbeat. We consistently make more than him and still have a pension and retirement healthcare. He says he still kicks himself for taking the tie even 10 years after the fact.

Not only is it a demotion, it is also a huge pay cut as you make more in management than union. I would never want to take a union job. I like my ability to free think and not be controlled on what I can or cannot do.

They can indeed be converted. It requires extensive hormone therapy and a significant amount of reconstructive surgery, though.

Remember the CWA contract has a provision for keeping your old pay if you are bumped down. Depending on time in title, this could be anywhere from 6 months to 1 year before a reduction in pay.

There used to be a retreat option when you took a management job but you only had a certain amount of time to exercise that option.I can’t imagine that offer, if it is legit, letting management retain their current salaries. I would think at best if your salary is higher than union pay your salary would be reduced to top pay for the job title. But I can’t imagine this being true when they declare surpluses.

It's called a demotion.

Union salaries are listed in their agreement I’d expect some management employees may get a pay raise moving to a union job and some get a pay cut. I’d be really surprised if they kept their exact pay and more surprised if they thought they were keeping sti.
The benefits are far better especially for retirees depending on how their years translate.
