Surplus while selected for contingency assignment

curious if being drafted contingency would save you from surplus in the meantime (for west april CWA strike).

No risk of the CWA striking since there is very little membership and impact to the business. The layoff machine will not stop.

They have every reason TO strike. Have you been under a rock?

In the past, when all the contracts expired more or less at once, there did seem to be a pause in the layoff activity. Now given the successful divide and conquer strategy (why did the unions ever agree to staggered dates?) I doubt they would bother to worry about it.

It's also entirely plausible that someone could be notified of a layoff, have an off roll date, and then they just pause the whole thing for a period of time, until it suits them to resume. They did this at the start of the pandemic. Now with the 2 week window it's far less likely that it would happen that way.

Nope. Friend's contingency assignment arrived 3 weeks before lay off date. 3 days before lay off date an anniversary certificate arrived in an email. To assume you would be safe would suggest AT&T's left hand knows what the right hand is doing.
