Thread regarding Ford layoffs

GM Brightdrop >>> Ford Next

Is it possible that Peter Stern will do the same and reduce the cost of Ford Next by merging it back into the company and eliminating excess executive overhead? It would certainly be the right thing to do for shareholders.

“DETROIT, Nov 16 (Reuters) - General Motors (GM.N) said on Thursday it was reorganizing its BrightDrop electric commercial vehicle unit to make it less independent and reduce costs, and that the unit's head, Travis Katz, would be leaving.

GM said CEO Katz was leaving at an unspecified date, but did not elaborate on the reason for his departure.

GM said BrightDrop, the unit it launched in early 2021, will no longer operate separately from the parent company. When it was first launched, officials talked about BrightDrop as a startup within GM that had operational freedom.”

It is clear that the customer has become more informed and choiceful. Management needs to be leaner and more reactionary. Maybe start thinking outside the box ?

@1bhe+1pDro5bX "nimble through process leadership" was a Ford buzz-phrase! they stole our bureaucracy! (they can have it, right?)

While Ford Next is an important part of the company, comparing it to BrightDrop if mistaken. Using Model e and Ford Pro is a better comparator. With this more logical comparison, you will see Ford is in a much better position in the market than GM.

GM tried to stay nimble through process leadership but they just threw away money.

FLV was the mastermind and architect behind Ford Next. Not JF or even DF. Be informed.

@hzy - I've read so many resumes with this in it: "I incubated with maximum synergy and spearheaded bla bla bla". I burst out laughing every time!

JF created Ford Next. So unless he goes, FN is not going anywhere.

"...officials talked about BrightDrop as a startup within GM that had operational freedom."

This condition doesn't exist. A startup within a large company...is something people say when they try to do something different that will cost a lot of money and possibly never make it back. C-Level word smith tactic...think of it kinda like "synergy" which is another BS terms that should cause an immediate change of your professional opinion of someone using it unless they are quoting someone.

Ford Next has a more established and solid foundation than BrightDrop did. The only hiccup Ford Next had was with leadership in which I still will say FLV was targeted by the automotive media. Not sure what they were afraid of with him.

Once Ford Next gains new directions with the replacement leadership it will be fine going forward.
