Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Large supply chain alleviation

After the CTDI transition, the remaining AT&T supply chain distribution centers were said to be safe going forward. However, information has now leaked that there is an initiative in place to start trial in January 2024. This will outsource the remaining work in these centers to 3rd party vendors, similar to the current DTV program that nearly alleviated all EPL work in each location. If the trial is successful, it's expected that surplus notices will begin at the beginning of second quarter. Ultimately, 2024 looks to be the end of the road for many employees.

Just informed I was suspended without pay because I had 8 lines last year that aren’t being used by a customer and now I’m in trouble. They called it no usage or zero usage lines, something like that.

My question is how long can I be suspended for?

3 months? 6 months?

Yes. The company business model is to be 100% vendor with a small handful of employee project managers to lousily see over it as the vendors rip us off.

Yes, unfortunately they can do it, as proven time and time again, the company can and will do as they wish. After all, Union contracts are a median agreement between CWA and AT&T, the verbiage regarding surplus/forced reductions is carefully executed, by design.
As far as cost, outsourcing to 3rd parties has also shown to be an expensive disaster in years past, as is the current DTV program. Look at the Nexius/Allios conundrum that plagued operations a couple years back. The reality is, it's a "different budget" and most management turns a blind eye to the DTV violations as the ultimate goal is simple, vendor operated organization.

Eventually they won’t of control over anything but negotiating contracts and those rates will go higher and higher every time once you outsource all your talent, maybe not supply chain but definitely support and IT.

Can be done at one half the cost by contracting out to a third party. Surprised it took this long to make this change! THIS, JUST LIKE MOTOR VEHICLES, IS NOT TRADITIONAL TELECOM WORK! GET OUT.

Not really surprising, it’s what the company has been doing for years. Contracting and offshoring has been happening at an accelerated rate due to debt. Pretty soon it will be a shell of what it once was, like what happened to the original AT&T.
