Hope that everybody enjoyed a wonderful layoff free Thanksgiving. One 0.05% layoff in January.

Life has been good in 2023 hasn’t it?

Sorry, they don’t get any lower than 0.05%.

You can’t have another layoff this year when there wasn't a first. An attempted layoff in January which HR stopped even as it started doesn’t count as a layoff.

If we ever have a real layoff again you’ll know it. Until then let’s try to enjoy the holidays and give thanks for this layoff free year.

2023 layoffs were an epic fail. Have to think that Robin is pounding on HR to regain this core competence which has clearly been lost.

No, there was nothing after January and January itself was an HR fail.

Lowest layoff year in at least 40 years…

They don’t get smaller than January’s .05% layoff and this year there were no others.

That is not true. There were other layoffs throughout the year not just January. The others may have been a little smaller. But some departments lost people each quarter.

@kfl

Answer: layoffs are not quarterly.

This year there was only one layoff… way back in January and it was aborted in only one day. Nobody knows why.

I’m here to study this odd sociology/experiment wherein group paranoia of layoffs escalates wildly the fewer that there are. One would think that folks would relax in this 4 year low layoff era but it’s the opposite. It’s fascinating and really should be studied.

@7wdc, why are you here? If there are no layoffs, why did you seek out thelayoff.com??? You think we all just randomly showed up on this site?

@gxp. January was a 1/2 percent botched layoff. After the two year Todd era, whom we dearly miss, January was the first attempt for a layoff. As we now know the attempted January layoff failed to materialize. As It turned out, HR has kind of lost its groove and is now struggling to manage a layoff.

There’s a lot to complain about but layoffs haven’t been a concern for three years.

I attribute it to your vivid imagination. There was no Sept layoff.

Very unlikely that there will be post Thanksgiving layoffs. This is the lowest level of layoffs that I’ve seen in 40 years. We had only one layoff this year and while it was intended to be a 1% layoff, it was botched by HR and was a .05% layoff. This is the lowest layoff year that I’ve ever seen here, and that’s over 40 years.

So we essentially only had one layoff this year… the January Sub 1% layoff. I’m sorry, but this is about the lowest layoff environment that I’ve seen on my 40 years.

Just saw your wife with the new H-1B VISA dude who is standing up your old team off shore. Really hitting it off with her.

This is actually charmingly hilarious but so clueless…

“Most likely the day before Thanksgiving Day. India doesn’t celebrate obviously so it should make for a quick transition of the work.”

To think that you can stand up and train an entire offshore team with onshore team lead over a holiday weekend. How many disconnects are there in @3mwy‘s?

It’s astounding.

Pssst… you’re not insane. There is a new H-1B worker behind every telephone pole, peaking over your fences, studying your processes even as he’s staffing his offshore team which he will lead from your old cubicle. Do you notice how they laugh at you as they take over and how they whisper about you quietly as you pretend not to be listening. It’s not all in your head… it really is happening.

This is totally delusional. It’s good to be worried, but when it goes to full fledge denial of job security in a low layoff environment, well that’s full blown paranoia.

On some level you understand the psychosis as you’re not looking for a better job.

stop pretending you know people. There is no pattern of layoffs. Just because you didn’t hear of anyone you knew getting let go doesn’t mean it hasn’t been happening. This place could care less about any of us and they will cut as many as they can to save money. It’s all about spending less even if it means replacing with people who know nothing . We all know India is all they talk about because they get paid Pennies compared to us here in the US. There is another round in December and again in January so be prepared and stop being nieve. We all Bust ur butt for a place who will let you go without a second thought of how you will pay your bills

300 to 400 a month layoffs minimum? This paranoia is as deep as it is misguided.

So a greedy executive stole your friends’ money? Did you file a code RAP or an HR complaint? Just how did these greedy executives steal this friend’s money?

Seriously, you need to get a vacation over the holidays and decompress.

Of course better products can certainly afford a higher cost structure.

Where in the Bank are you seeing better products? I see lots of burned development time with only small fixes. So where is the money going and where are these “better products?

@2crk, better products can certainly afford a higher cost structure. Your short sightedness is similar to our leaders' who think they're getting the same work from lower paid, less educated employees with worse infrastructure.

January was a 1% layoff. Yes, it was by far the largest this year and that’s a good thing, isn’t it? It sure beats the 2000 - 2008 10% per year layoffs.

The “greedy executives” aren’t paid to lay people off. They’re paid to keep the company in business for the shareholders, i.e. our owners. No company cannot survive when it has a higher cost structure than competitors. We have a higher cost structure than competitors. A failing company is no good for employees, stockholders or regional taxes which support regional areas.

With lots of folks terminated at your location then you have no risk of being identified. This means that it was a small workgroup.

Well there wasn’t a first round. It petered out on day one for reasons which remain unknown.

I’m not trying to scare anyone. This is a website dedicated to layoff topics. I can only speak to what’s happening at my location. I would love to give you more details as to what specifically is going on at my location, but I’m too afraid it will help identify who I am. I know of lots of folks at my location who were let go in the early round plus, Sept, and Oct. Yes, the actual number is small when you look at the WHOLE company. But when you focus on smaller factors like location IT IS quite alarming. And that’s what this site IS about. 15% of my group was let go recently. I just heard there were 6 people just from one group, plus quite a few I’ve been working with for years let go in each round, so yes it’s quite alarming. I keep hearing through the grapevine about more that were let go that I didn’t even realize Maybe you need to just crawl back under your rock and pretend it’s not going on. And I think you made a comment at some point something like: if this is going on you’d notice security walking people out the door. In our era of hybrid work environment, they don’t officially lay someone off until they made it home. This way no one notices. So they let someone work, go home, and when they sign back on they get laid off. It’s complete garbage. Problem is BNY is making up for lost time during Covid so it’s happening real quick.

BNYM has never had monthly layoffs, at least not in the last 40 years. Don’t exaggerate… it’s a hellish place to work but spreading lies and misinformation doesn’t help anybody. Can’t you just try to stop spreading falsehoods?

by

BNYM does not lay anyone off. They permanently terminate US workers and replace them with even more offshore workers.
