“Considered to have resigned” is hella illegal. Resigning is an active step, you just described being fired.

HR is going to end up in hot water with the department of labor for trying to separate employees from their unemployment benefits.

(You don’t get them if you “leave”, you have to be shown the door)

Some Nike employees who had informal agreements with managers about remote work are being asked to submit their 2024 compliance with 4/1 in writing. If they fail to do so, they will be "considered to have resigned." However, ALL employees are definitely not being asked to submit compliance in writing, and not all of those who had informal agreements are being asked. Has anyone investigated the legality of this unevenly distributed requirement? Also, no severance for 'resigning' was mentioned by my manager.

Yet some HR teams are now getting approved to go full remote.

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

It will be tracked by badge access, computer login location, and computer usage.

Regarding enforcement...I don't think it's going to be all that complicated for managers. There will just be some sort of weekly report of every employee's badge activity and an automatic flag for any days they don't show up on campus when they are supposed to. Managers just become the messengers of the facts. It won't be in their hands to do much else but lay out the consequences after the fact. No offense to all managers, but my experience at Nike the past 4 years in particular is that many are just pass-through conduits for whatever the VPs tell them to do.They are providing VERY little additional value add in the flow of crud dropping down from on high. It may be because they've been given progressively less and less autonomy to make any inpactful decisions like the rest of us. I'm sure there are some exceptions and I've had good managers a few times after twenty years...but less so lately. Case in point how the return to office policy will be enforced.

I know so many managers in Nike who’ll end up enforcing the policy. For them…it is either their job or yours and the decision is very clear.

Middle management at Nike is pretty useless and scared.

Move to Oregon so they can lay you off in 6-12 months. It’s the nike way. Just do it.

@2bpx+1pFp6pD4, you say "And your manager can be let go"

Mgr here. Nike better prepare to put a lot of effort into monitoring / tracking / enforcing this policy. If Nike forces their mgmt staff to police this policy, it will come at the expense of morale, productivity and focus. No wonder Nike is losing itself by focusing on the wrong things.

If you are assigned to BATC you will need to be in the office 4/1 or you will be terminated. And your manager can be let go. You can file an accommodations request if there is a reason you can’t go in. I wish you the best an hope your circumstances change.

BATC employees are screwed. It was setup so RL’s cronies can pretend to work from there. So many are still around unfortunately

What about those of us "assigned" to the BATC but live too far away to commute to SF?

Everyone just needs to do what our admin is doing and fake a family emergency that keeps you from being able to arrive before 10am and needs you going home before 2. Can’t forget to sprinkle in a few days off pretending to WFH.

If you are in an org where they are demanding you leave remote while leaders like Sr Dirs and VPs can stay remote then you need to put them on blast. In my experience the orgs where they are asking for people to return have leadership that is also in the office. It is different from org to org, some orgs have VPs that are remote, some do not. It is not consistent throughout Nike.

Typical Nike way - employees will be given some stupid reasons, will be forced to move to WHQ and leaders will be granted excuses and for people that are close to leaders will get exception.

Find new role outside for your sanity. Not all companies operate this badly.

This is also impacting employees that were hired into remote roles (that have never worked at WHQ). It’s completely counterintuitive given that Sr Directors and above can stay remote, but now their teams all have to move to PDX, even though their leaders won’t be there.

Well if that's the case...see ya! Its become such a soviet-style sh!tshow they should just move WHQ to San Francisco.

Please, there are departments where the VP and senior directors are almost all remote. There is zero chance they, or their teams, are operating at 100% or anything close to it.

I never worked at WHQ and have been 100% remote for almost 10 years. Now being asked to relocate or leave. It has nothing to do with my proven ability to do the job remotely which is frustrating. Crazy thing is I work with the APLA region which requires me to start work at 3am. Why am I going into the office at 3am when nobody else is there!? Also being asked to make a final decision without details of the relocation package, any pay calibration to accommodate a higher cost of living, or details of the severance.

Exciting! Now we can all smoke with LV in the bathroom. Personally, I’ve started looking for work and am over this company.

Is anyone being offered severance for not returning to WHQ?

The timing of this decision is everything I’ve come to expect from our leadership (stupidity & a complete disassociation from reality & how our business operates).

Why are they doing this right before Black Friday & the holidays? This is our Super Bowl! This month will make or break our year. And here they are freaking out the team with overnight trades & no communication.

Are you going to be focused on Black Friday? Are you going to be focused on brushing up a resume?

I know what I’ll be doing

As one that was impacted. I had full approval to go remote due to family health issue. My role is not part of the pilot. Of course not happy to be faced with a decision to make, I am happy to have been given a choice and appreciative that Nike gave the original approval. Nothing in life is with out pros and cons and in this situation it is what it is. What i don’t understand here is the negativity thrown at people who made a decision to move and had hope it could last. Nothing wrong with either. If it didn't last that is too bad but good on ya making a decision in your life to make a change. Whatever you decide i wish you the best.

True for some but not all. There are a lot of remote employees that are still allowed to be remote.

This is not how Nike is getting rid of people without doing a layoff. This is a layoff for those who don't come back to the office. Those people are getting severance if they decide not to return.

@OP+1pFp6pD4 Only ones who were not fully on the remote approved "pilot". Many get to stay 100% remote. Those who assumed they could stay remote but were never officially approved as such must come back. What did y'all think was going to happen??

It's a way to get rid of a bunch if people without laying y'all off.
