Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Secret techniques for surviving here

Go into a meeting and basically don’t ever talk first. Then leave the meeting 5 to 10 minutes before it ends so you don’t get tasks assigned to you. If you speak first in a meeting you lose and will get stuff thrown on you. Let the id--ts talk to each other instead and just mute yourself and do something else

@vul+1pGsbqMi "applause only culture" ... this is a good one and true. I hope the WSJ reporter who reads these postings writes that one down. Even A.M. pointed this out. "All status is green, always." "No quality problems anticipated. Launch will go smooth. Sales will be tremendous." The concept of risk analysis doesn't seem to exist at Ford. If you point out potential problems, You are the problem (to your managers). Then they of course become the problem to you, haha. Oops. It's not so funny when you are the target of a "not a team player" campaign when all you do is a coarse FMEA regarding their crazy schemes.

GM was similar. I left automotive (even though I LOVE cars) after 20yrs in 2019 and it was the best decision I've made to date. It will change one day, but it might not soon.

If the culture bothers you, for those with the skills and want to make a difference outside of automotive, there are a lot of industries that need and want to hire you!

I would propose that you never know who is going to be a victim of a dog pile / scapegoating operation. If you don't take part (while protecting yourself of course) you will be seen as a good co-worker and likely be rewarded. Kindness is always a good option. Think about if you'd want that happening to you. Don;t take part in the gossip and piling on. It rarely pays off in the long run and if it gets you ahead it ki-ls your soul.

@gpl+1pGsbqMi You are correct Ford is an applause only culture. And a scapegoating culture. Be careful about dogpiling on to your LL6’s scapegoat. Sometimes the LL5 moves someone under the LL6 to gather intel and eventually replace the LL6. If you dogpile / hate on that LL6 scapegoat, you are going to be in a precarious position.

LOL that happens frequently @ FoMoCo. There was a female LL6 in ITO that specialized in this. When I finally had enough and told my LL5 I wanted to transfer to another area, he blocked the transfer and told me it was might fault for not sending emails out documenting every “meeting” with the female LL6. I took it at face value and sent him an email with a transcript of every interaction with her; I also told all my coworkers that the LL5 had requested this. He was not pleased as the LL6’s husband was a LL4 and he was receiving reams of meeting transcripts and knew the LL6 was manipulating him. When the LL4 retired years later, the LL5 finally took action and pushed her out of his department and her new LL5 laid her off in 2019. Of course she claimed she asked to be laid off, but we all knew the truth.

You're all wrong. The best way to perform at Ford is to be a parrot. Basically repeat everything that your LL6 or LL5 says. Make it slightly different so that it sounds like your idea supports their idea.

Also, you should like the people that the 6 or 5 like. You should hate the people that they hate.

Never have an original idea. And most importantly of all - never disagree with anything that they say.

@OP bad advice to “leave the meeting 5 to 10 minutes before it ends so you don’t get tasks assigned to you”. Guaranteed you will get assignments because you left the meeting early. And the next meeting they will ask you for a status and why you haven’t completed your assigned tasks. If you claim you didn’t know about the tasks, they will pull up the meeting attendee list and say - but you attended the meeting when the assignments were made. This happens like clockwork @ Ford. It’s a source of entertainment for the FnF crowd.

Same crowd that in the face-to-face meeting will come over for a one on one conversation with you and talk about the weather/sports. Then tell the LL5 who was at the meeting and saw you talking, that you had agreed to do XYZ by the end of the week. At the next meeting the LL5 asks why didn’t you complete XYZ? And you are WTF that wasn’t assigned to me. And what can you do? Invoke liar liar pants on fire? By then the LL5 has his narrative and he is sticking to it
