How is leadership in Midland?

I'm curious, I was considering asking for a move to the Permian team, how is leadership in Midland? Has anything changed since PXD announcement?

@fsf+1pIuzqDR The layoff is associated with non-Permian assets that were sold recently. No concern of layoff in Permian right now.

Clearly many Pioneer folks will leave and the ranking system, better opportunities elsewhere for some, etc will continue to drive attrition.

I’ve never had a problem with local leadership. They did as much as they could to protect us from the constant pressure coming from Houston. I think the biggest problem is the constant changes to plans due to people needing to make a big change every year to claim impact as part of their PDS. Add in the constant transfers and moving people as soon as they learned the job that just make things harder.

Midland group isn’t bad at all. It’s all the damn management in Houston that shuffle folks around and keep a straight plan.

Leadership can’t do anything about the forced ranking. Many have moved to Permian only to be PIPd. Company won’t help you move back to civilization if they PIP you and fire you. Beware. Many laid off during COVID shortly after moving and their spouse quitting their Houston job.

A few tips

  1. If you have kids beware of the local schools.
  2. The non tax protected cost of living adjustment can be cut at any time as it was cut to zero during COVID
  3. Permian cost of living is much higher than Houston

There is a thread on here from a week or two ago about layoff notifications that XTO submitted to Texas state government. Maybe wait till January?
