Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Leaving to a competitor

Seriously thinking in resigning soon and going to a competitor (Direct big competitor), and I don’t want to have a gap in my income, so thinking in quitting on Friday and starting on Monday with the new job.

I was told Cisco will terminate you immediately if you resign to go to a competitor so no point in giving 2 weeks notice…is this accurate? Thanks

Employed at will, right? No need advanced notice. Are u sure the bright competitor can escape layoff?

If you are over 45, reconsider.

" Just prepare. It's a tricky time to make a move with competitor/industry layoffs. First in, first out approach at most places. Have a backup plan and be prepared to be out of work for 3-6 months. "

Sounds just like a typical Cisco L-O-S-E-R

But I have heard if you're going to a competitor your exit is expedited.

You have to instantly hand over your laptop to your manager. Nobody will be able to ping you and ask annoying questions on your last two weeks of courtesy notice.

Your employment is "at will" from both sides - yours and the company's. Giving two weeks' notice is a courtesy but not a requirement, nor are you required to state where you're going. But I have heard if you're going to a competitor your exit is expedited.

Just stop showing up or talking to any of them. F'em! They will probably keep paying you for a while how knows?

I’d strongly recommend offering the two week notice.

You’re not obligated to announce your new gig or to provide a two week/2 hour notice. Bridges can be rebuilt & businesses can extinguish the fire in the future.

You are not obligated to let your manager know where you are going. Tell them you are resigning and evaluating options.

However, you might be burning some bridges by being coy about it.
