Does this make sense? Intel to order 14b billion of N3 from TSMC?

How can they claim to be a a leader but in technology and manufacturing and be back if they need to go to TSMC

Who’d trust to use IFS versus go where Intel goes ?

I read somewhere it’s like asking other people to use your bakery why you go to someone else’s bakery

if intel can subcontract the manufacturing to TSMC and still make descent money out of it i don't see much of a problem.
It's not as ideal is intel doing the manufacturing but they're still making money.

Now Pat looks to lead his flock to the promised land with five nodes in four years but sadly as he parts the Red Sea his flock is washed away by Apple, Nvidia, AMD, Qualcomm MediaTek, Microsoft, and Intel riding the real Foundry wave.

Sorry Intel you are 10 years too late to the party.

Apple uses TSMC 100% now, did Intel make much $$ from apple before? Seems like losing them is a huge loss unless they paid next to nothing for chips.

Although Intel seems to be still talking tough on the surface, claiming that it will only release single GPU (graphics processor) and high-speed I/O chips, starting from Lunar Lake, it will include compute tiles. The conclusion is that using TSMC as an OEM is like taking dr-gs. Once you use it, it will be difficult to go back.

For Intel, if in-house production capacity remains unchanged and foundry production capacity increases by 19~20% of total production capacity every year, the revenue contribution of foundry products will reach 28% in 2024 and 44% in 2025. If true, this number is frighteningly high.

IFS was only able to land Ericsson and Mediatek (low performance Intel 16 node).
This is sub-scale.

Intel can't afford to lose share to superior transistors at TSMC.
IFS is a losing strategy.

AI suggests you should research more about Intel tricks. Only one part of its future SoC is on TSMC N3 node. The rests are still on old outdated nodes. Intel 7 is not 7nm node but it tricks non technical people think its 10nm as 7nm. Same as Intel 4 which is 7nm node that tricks people into thinking 4nm node because they are behind on fabrication process technology.
