Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

5 day work week.

Can’t say how I know - but a 5 day in person work week will be announced in June. I’ll save my own personal ramblings and just say this - it was nice knowing you, Nike.

It’s like @5hvj thinks Nike is an American company or something lol.

Our product is made in Vietnam & our code is written in India.

There is very little happening State-side outside of product design.

Love it. Zoom is no substitute for in person collaboration. Folks if you don't like coming to office, work for some other company. Stop whining, please.

It's obvious that a 4-1 will turn into a 5 day in the office. These CEOs not only sit around and do nothing, but they like to sit in their comfy chairs with other CEOs and have "fireside" chats about what they should do to make money.

It's all financially driven so if you dislike it and you're considered a top talent, time to leave.

@2qnj missed the whole point of @1tdn's post...
Doesn't matter where your "office" is, you work with colleagues around the world. Even when you touch product directly in your role, you still need to collaborate with the places it is manufactured. Well before COVID, USA colleagues would leave early to take Asia calls from home. EHQ regularly takes their USA calls from home...
We had so much improvement in these remote collaboration tools during COVID, it's just interesting to see how people are clinging to the narrative that in-person every single week is best. Because...it's never been. It's never been possible! That's why we (used to) travel for work and would have dedicated offsites, etc. I think what you're feeling is actually the lack of investment in employees (via training, offsites, development, etc.) that has been going on in JD's era. It's wrecked the culture

As soon as they announced 4-1 instead of 3-2 workweek I started casually looking. Now I'll double down

@1eei This mentality is exactly why Nike has lost almost all of it’s top talent, and won’t be able to attract similar in the future. Do you think any top performer would put up with your attitude? By default, Nike will continue to only attract mediocre, junior talent because of their regressive policies. Keep licking them boots!

@1tdn+1pQRkAYk Our Asian Colleagues are actually in the office. Yes, they sit in their office while you are sitting in your house in your flannel pajamas sipping your p-town coffee lamenting about having to “shocking” go into the office. Cry me a river. Boo hoo.

Nike will NOT leave its giant, fancy campus sit empty. It comes down to optics and money.

Did the pretty (over the top) campus not lure you in and make you want to work at Nike even more?

Yah. Don't expect them to step into modern perspectives. Leadership doesn't in any other realm, why would they with this?

Unless thry find another way to make $$ off the halls that echo on Mondays and Fridays, peeps will be called back.

And again, it is a way to get rid of some of you.

@1tdn+1pQRkAYk agreed 100%. I’d also point out to the remote naysayers that by & large we were all remote for 2 years so are you also implying that you slacked off for 2 years as you seem to think current remote employees do? Or were you just a special exemption from everyone else and the only true good employees during that time? insert sarcasm here

When these comments rag on remote employees, it makes me wonder how you treated (and still treat?) your Asia-based colleagues. I know that was always an issue - talking down to teammates, clearing up their "misunderstandings", not taking their ideas as seriously as your own since they weren't coming from WHQ...
It's really telling how little folks know how to collaborate. And these days you have Zoom! I remember the days of Intercall and it not working half the time with Indo. That's why we traveled so often to meet in person, but it was never x amount of days per week...

Ooo a park like setting really truly makes the sting of child care taking 50% of my paycheck a lot less. I sure love overpaying for sh---y food AND being away from my child. Nike is a virtue signaling BS company. They say they’re here to empower women and working moms while revoking flexibility. Some of you are the reason the pendulum never swings in the direction of change. Enjoy su-king JD’s d*ck and being in person. Your lack of knowledge on the remote work “movement” and lack of empathy for others shows you’re either a single person or an old man who has no idea what it’s like to be a caregiver.

Heaven forbid you have to work on the campus of your employer. That’s a lot to ask. Are the campus amenities too overwhelming? Is working in-person too much of a burden? Or is the 20-30 minute drive each day too taxing? I realize the subsidized workout facilities, food and covered parking in a park-like setting can be a bit much. Cry me a river while you go to work in a semi-utopia environment that 95% of corporate America can only dream about, with full healthcare, profit sharing, retirement plans, etc. Sure, HR may be poor; senior leadership beyond entitled and the stock dropping or moving sideways for the past year. But if working in an office is too much, move on and get a real dose of reality. Grass may be greener on the other side. Or not. But stop your whining. You have it pretty darn good but just don’t realize it.

The future is a decentralized system or virtual / VR and working virtually is embracing and creating product for the needs of the consumer who is evolving to that. It is forward thinking and frankly evolutionary. Returning to work be it 3/4/5 days has everything to do with the billions of dollars invested in an outdated centralized irrelevant campus and way of working. Nike is not the only company grappling with the eventual collapse of a commercial real estate market.

Realty check- who are you people who thought fully remote was the future? Who thought that collaboration was best executed remotely? Who moved away and thought it was permanent? You work for a company that decides how work is best done- together. If that does not work with your personal life, find another employer/role. It's life.
