Clearly Cisco wants to reduce the amount of accrued PTO that is sitting as a liability on the books. The inflexibility of mandatory PTO is not going over well with employees. Would Cisco move away from the accrued PTO model and adopt unlimited PTO? All employees get paid for their current PTO balance, and time off is negotiated with your manager going forward. The ELT must be considering it.

Unlimited PTO is coming. Will be announced soon. Personally I don’t care and will get my work done.

Not reality. Raging ignorance. Every time I go to the office it's amazing how I see folks gabbing and gabbing and gabbing on company time. You keep telling yourself that, tho. All the in office advocates think it counts as work if you're talking sports in somebody's office.

The issue for me is that Cisco decided what the PTO policy is and set it at allowing employees to accrue 220 hrs of PTO--more if you've got 5, 10 or 15 yrs of service--at a time. Then they come along and punish everyone trying to force those who are in compliance w/ the policy to use more PTO to reduce the number of hours accrued.
I would suggest that Cisco change the policy if that's what they need to do to make their numbers look better, but then they'd lose a lot of talent and be unable to attract and/or hire talent with a sh---y PTO benefit. Why work at Cisco w/ 2-weeks PTO when other companies give 4 or more?
If you read the answers in the Q&A for the Cisco Beat where they announced the additional mandatory PTO, they mentioned that they had considered unlimited PTO and decided against it because workers don't want it due to the statistics that show people actually take less PTO when they have "unlimited" PTO. And, you don't accrue it, so you don't get paid for any unused time when you leave, so I won't work for a company that has it. There are plenty of companies that have better PTO plans.
If Cisco continues to mandate ~50% of our PTO, then they need to separate our personal time off, or vacation time, from our sick days. Let the sick days be given on Jan 1, and not rolled over and force them to be used for actual illnesses, i.e. w/ a doctor's note, etc. and then reduce the number of vacation days that can be accrued and are a financial liability to Cisco to a reasonable number. I think the CFO said that if everyone at Cisco took the same day off, it was about $20M in liability reduction. Reduce everyone's annual PTO accrual by 5 days and give 5 days of sick leave instead and it's a $100M annual reduction in liabilities. I think most healthy people don't use/need more than 5 days of sick time, and the unhealthy people are probably already using more of their current PTO time as "sick days" than "vacation time" anyway, so it's not really a change for them as it's still a total of 20 days per year.
