Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

This will be a long day

What an unfortunate time to choose to do something like this. Just goes to show how little those at the top care about employees and how something like this can affect our families.

Nike friends, trust me, you will be OK! I was laid off recently and honestly, it was SO good for my career. You will find something better where they actually value you. If you are laid off, take some time for yourself, reflect over the holidays with your family, and come back ready to hit the ground running in January when many companies are hiring. It may feel grim right now, but you will come out the other side stronger!

I’m so very sorry Nike friends. I left awhile back but come and check this board every so often in the hopes things will be better and more like the company I joined many years ago. I hate how far it’s fallen

I can’t imagine being such a heartless, money driven piece of work to do this to people this time of year. This will impact the entire families of individuals being let go and the ones responsible will find some way to justify it.
At some point you have to put aside the corporate charades and behave as a human with values. Shame on anyone involved in the execution of this and I can only imagine what degree of lying to yourself it requires to sleep at night.

I’m surprised that local news media has not picked this up yet

Is there indeed more today or was that only rumor?

Expect that everyone will be affected so update your resume, start applying to jobs, and adjust your spending. If you are fortunate enough to not get laid off, great! If not, it’s not the end. There will always be better opportunities.

Read the WARN rules and they have to layoff over 500 before a WARN notice is required. There is both a 30 and 90 day window with slightly differing rules that indicate if you add up little layoffs over these periods that go above 500 you have to issue the WARN notice. So basically they don’t have to issue the notice until they go over 500. I couldn’t find details on how severance impacts the rules so I assume it doesn’t. If Nike is laying ppl off but paying them for a time afterwards then they are buying time until they have to file WARN.

Shut up about warn until you read the law.

@yie+1pVD4kfe my understanding is there are 400 people in Lebron , which m makes it over 10% of innovation staff

They should’ve hit warn by now it’s been over 50 people over the past 30 days

@tou+1pVD4kfe from what I’ve heard they’re giving the 60 day notice now, so sounds like it will hit that threshold

I believe if you pay a certain amount of severance it delays the warn notice or circumvents it. Not positive though.

@hlu+1pVD4kfe What are WARN rules?

I’m not super educated on this but I see nothing on the WARN list. It couldn’t be a significant amount given that I’d think?

I feel your pain, woke up at 3am stressing more than usual. I’ll make an appearance for a bit then I’m out.
