Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

When I worked at Wells, I felt like a burden employee

Got laid off there in 2021. How many times did we hear leadership say, Look. There're just way too many people working here. We're bloated ". I had just joined. Why did you waste my time hiring me, if you were bloated?

Maybe you were hired to be laid off, to protect someone's team "favorites." Agree- no rhyme or reason here.

This was true for many many years. No matter what was happening in other groups it didn't impact my own all that much. That all changed with Chainsaw though and his plan to massively centralize every aspect of decision making. Even directors and their bosses just parrot whatever word is handed down now. They is zero real power outside of Hudson Yards and a few in Charlotte. The marching orders all come down from the politburo.

in my many years at the bank I find the culture has never come from above and is always group/team specific. My sense of happiness at work has always been directly correlated with my manager and team.

The vision(s) and the commitment to develop sound processes to execute said vision has been fraught with mgmt turnover and a lackluster HR department. Everything is myopic, there is no logic involved big picture wise. Failure is the default, chaos without order is the only thing on the menu.

So we end up with a lot of execs and upper mgmt getting paid without much accountability. Sure some do get fired. They end up leaving with a lot of money in their hands and their replacement only has to be marginally better.

And HR isn't incentivized to build a culture at the bank. Difficult to use the words -culture- and -bank- in the same sentence.

Hires and fires are just a set of random actions at a fundamentally flawed company.
