Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Where AT&T will get the $14 billions to fund the O-RAN project?

With today’s high interest rate, how AT&T will fund this project? Is T counting on mass layoffs and painful cost savings?

Something else T-mob doesn’t have, wireline. They contract with AT&T for a lot of their backhaul to and from the cell towers. It’s nice to own the pipes, prices can up as needed because guess what, wireless is only from the device to the tower then it’s wireline back to the equipment. Wonder who wins in that scenario?

Small piece that T-mob trolls are missing,

T-Mobile currently has approx 81,000 badged employees.

TMOB doesn't provided nearly the amount of services that T does! T provides WiFi services to McDonalds, Home Depot, Walmart and on and on! It converts copper POTS lines to cellular for required analog lines for security and fire alarm services. It provides managed services for companies that don't have their own IT departments, the bottom line is that T requires many more employees to continue to provide all the additional services to companies that TMOB and VZ offer!

Obviously head count reductions. You don't outsource work and then keep the employees around that we're doing it. If you don't see this then your naive.

To @rts+1pXJ11nU

So, I'll take you at your word that you work in Dallas and are in the know about network optimization. Regarding your comment about no more layoffs can you provide any insight on how an additional $2 Billion in cost savings is going to occur in the next several years without additional reductions in head count when almost all of the previous expense reduction was mostly head count related? OK, so you can't provide specifics then offer up some general comments on how those savings are going to occur that are Not employee related. Good grief!!!

TMobiles network was, is and will always be garbage. Typically last in every competitive network reliability comparison.

“At&t will need make changes in the balance sheet to accomodoate this new project. Where will they get the money? Looking at the last finiancials they will not be obtaining this money from revenue. So the only location is in liabilities. The easiest liability to cut is employees. How many? Let us do the math. $14 billion dollar deal over 5 years. That is $2.8 billion dollars a year. The average expense for an employee is $250 thousand a year. $2.8 billion divided by $250 thousand is 11,200. To balance the expense they will layoff a minimum 12,000 employees in 2024. Simple accounting”

If you rub the plan on the carpet in circles then you will see that you can get it to stick on Stankey's head.

I don’t think our leadership know how to fund it, they will add debt to existing debt and claim we are not generating enough revenue, and as you know a surplus party starts at full scale

Goal is under 100k employees by 2025. They want revenue per employee to be about $1.2m. Do the math. Currently we are at around 160k employees. They won’t “layoff” people, you’ll just get rebadged. Happened to digital employees 2x now, 1st to Tech Mahindra, 2nd to Accenture. No severance paid. Take it or there’s the door. I don’t know of any of those people that got rebadged still working around here or those other companies. Facts.

I don't think ATT lied, they are simply "fence sitters" under uncertainties, plans constantly change by the minute. Unfortunately, sadly we just don't have the right decision makers and how to execute....they are bunch of clowns.

Good grief for the last time, Ericsson is not taking over network management. AT&T has zero intention of ceding control of the network to a third party. It’s baseless rumor and hysteria. There are no plans in 2024 for additional layoffs either. "

You must not have seen the 2024 calendar that has 11 surplus dates. Likely place holders in the event they are needed, but they are there. First one is 1/22, let’s see if it happens. I heard rank and stack mid Dec with names confirmed 1/8. To repeat, this is the timeline, I have not heard anything about an actual surplus. Source: office collaboration

Ericsson will 100% replace 85% of badged employees. Deny all you want, the company wants contractor based financial efficiencies which is exactly what they’ll get. Keep your head in the sand though.

AT&T leadership planning to layoff about 100k employees in the next 5 years, this will save more than $14 billions
Look at the last 5 years, at&t did layoff about 100k

Remember, part of the $14 billions deal Ericsson will manage the mobility network for 5 years including design, optimization, capacity planning, everything.
This will save thousands of highly paid employees and management in the mobility
That’s how T will fund this project

And thought painful savings like office consolidation and RTO”
