Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Bad Review

I got a mid-year review, after I filed for a short-term disability for a major surgery. I don’t care my health is more important but it hurts after going beyond and above to learning major coding, which really isn’t in my job description but I learned it on my own and I ki-led it!!

First time negative review for me, in 20 years. Sad. :(

Simple, They are we-ponizing HR. Fire you so they save on severance or line you up for a layoff because you may have a high salary for your area. It happened to me. Bunch of rats running the show.

I know this is unpopular, but I'm in an office with a few scammers who use disability for a time off excuse, as others pick up the workload. I can't believe that HR actually allows for some of these reasons. Someone doing your workload should get a higher ranking.

"Not everyone fits in your narrative. Sure, if they are starting out or a few years into their careers.
Some people already have self-evaluated, self-accessed, have control, and are already successful. They do not need to advance in their careers.
And, by coming to a layoff site to gather info on possible job changes, well that falls under taking control of one's career, if you can weed through the dopey garbage posted that is unrelated to actual layoff info".

“And, by coming to a layoff site to gather info on possible job changes, well that falls under taking control of one's career”

If the intent of the author is to “gather info on possible job changes” then spend the valuable time gathering. Don’t waste the time venting over:
“First time negative review for me, in 20 years. Sad. :(“

As you even noted, why waste the time:
“if you can weed through the dopey garbage posted that is unrelated to actual layoff info”

Who knows, maybe the venting process is all that was needed here. Hopefully it was.

Unfortunately, this is all due to ranking. Your manager felt the need to give someone a better review, but on the flip side needed to give someone a lower review. Considering someone has to pick up your workload, it's tough not to give someone a better review.

"Sure it is. Simply self-evaluate, update the resume, initiate the job search. That is how successful people advance in their careers. They do not sit around and air their problems and issues on a layoff site. They take control and move on. It is that easy for successful people."

Yea I don’t think Wells is mixing reviews with layoffs. Your either going or you’re not, I had two people in my group laid off last month, one was Consistently Exceeds, the other was Inconsistently Meets.

It’s all location, location, location. At least in my team of 30.

"Bad Review

For all of the complainers on this site griping about:
Bad reviews
Bad managers
Bad CEO
Bad compensation
Bad raise
Bad bonus
Bad RTO policy
Bad this
Bad that
The list goes on and on, which ones were missed?
I have one easy, simple, question for all of you:
Why don't you save yourself all the grief and anguish caused by this obvious Bad employer and utilize the most obvious solution that will allow you to sleep more peacefully and just resign?

OP,
So what was your rating? Below meets? Needs Improvement? What was the outcome and what are you expected to do to improve? As another has noted, why are you now complaining?
Maybe your one of the many who got tagged for layoff to cull the herd. Time to get involved to do what it takes in keeping your head above water.
I am in similar boat., multi decades here. Fully expect to get tagged next year regardless of my rating,

Managers need to be held accountable, period. Despite training and coaching on how to conduct performance reviews and genuinely provide candid feedback, they bungled it up. They are the ones that SHOULD be managed out!

It sounds like they’re gonna get more aggressive with layoffs. It might be worth sticking around for the severance possibility if you get cut. Normally I’d say F ‘em, and recommend quitting. But get that 401K match on 12-15 and cross your fingers for a firing by end of January

OP doesn't even make sense. Year End reviews can't be given yet. If it was a bad mid-year so what and why are you complaining now, months after those happened? Nonsense thread.

Just to be clear, if you ever receive a bad review, be it mid-year or end of year, you should always......ALWAYS know it's coming. Managers are required to provide feedback throughout the year. If you have not received any negative feedback throughout the year and all of a sudden you receive a negative official rating, then they cannot put it in your review. Plan and simple. If you don't see it coming, it can't be negative.

Why was your review so soon? Or did you mean your mid year was bad?

Hey same thing happened to me this year. Over 15 years and rarely even a “meets”, usually above. For the first time I took STD for just a few weeks to care for my own health, after putting it off for so long, and ended up “needs improvement”. I have since received my non working / layoff notice.
I’m going to believe that I will be better off elsewhere. That place is no good for anyone’s physical and/or mental health.

I'm so sorry this happened to you.

You're not alone. Similar thing happened to me. I'm devastated.

But neither of us should internalize their words. They are horrible people and this is a horrible company.

If that is really what happened there is no way you should feel bad. You work for major A-holes.

Don’t let the company define your worth or health. The company helped with your medical expenses and supported you otherwise. Focus on the good - Welcome back!!
