Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

My blood pressure is through the roof

I don't think I'll be getting any sleep tonight. I'm dreading the possibility of being laid off but at the same time, I realize that living like this is not healthy. I just hope they'll be done with the whole thing tomorrow because I'm not sure how much more of this I can take and stay sane.

Joined Nike in 97. Held various product and innovation roles. Was blindsided in a layoff round a while back... Within two weeks my Blood Pressure was down 20 points. Within 8 weeks I had a better job for more $$ working in the footwear supply chain. Have served multiple brands including Nike for years in the new role. The first thing to remember is there is life after Nike. The second thing is that the berm is there to keep people in not out... There are tons of great footwear jobs that don't have the toxicity that exists at Nike. Transitions can be rough both financially and mentally but they are just that transitions. It is my opinion that if you created product and management teams out of the people that have left Nike (for one reason or another) over the last decade, those teams would be better than the ones running Nike now. Good Luck every one and for those who do get gone focus on the future state, not the transition period.

It's only going to get worse. I don't know how they expect people to do good work under the constant threat of layoff without severance. Compound that with layoffs of people who received exceptional feedback on CFEs and favorable ratings from partners, and the motivation dissipates rather quickly. No wonder all of our stock options over the last five years are upside down and worthless.

Find a good employment/contract attorney. They are all very familiar with the packages and will
Help you advocate for yourself. When you bring in people from Bain (JD) this is what happens. Someone should dig into his personal files when he was employed. They passed the trash!

@uxo+1pY5RTHR - I heard the same thing. Potential of 3-6 months before the GEO's are affected/impacted.

the offboarding support at Nike is world-class. Use it to find a better job with better benefits and pay. I did!! It really, really su-ks right now but you will come out the other side stronger and wiser. Allow yourself to grieve over the holidays and then come back stronger on the other side.

Lower your overhead and expenses.
Eliminate your debt, as fast as you can.
Start looking at Nike as a source or income and that alone.
Shed bad/toxic relationships with friends family or others.
Get counseling, dental care and a physical while it is paid for by Nike.
Maybe join the Nike Alums - although some of the sh!tbag Nike patriots are there too.
Log all interactions with toxic management- some of them are really stupid and will say ageist, racist, s-xist and other highly inappropriate and discriminatory things. Use that info to your advantage when needed.

Next big one is in Feb. And biggest in may.
That’s what an old timer HR was telling me. She is small fish so didn't know more. In between also many small layoff will continue. Our servant leader who promised transparency at every step with his f**ked up piece of word document destroying Nike. His CDA was a failure and this line it up project will sink whatever is left. I have 3 young kids hardly able to get sleep worrying what’s next …

Here is what I did to prep:
1- Adjusted my credit card payments to minimum payment to reserve my cash
2- shut down all activities like eating out or going out
3- Updated my resume and I am on Linkedin 24/7 applying to any open position
4- Signed up for Uber and Lyft. They do background check so it is not immediate approval and takes time
5- Signed up for Amazon Flex
6- listed my additional bedroom for rent to help with mortgage
7- Apply, Apple, Apply

We are all stressed. NSRL and NXT and DPC were all affected this week. It was a nightmare. Leaders say Tom and JD are done striking our team and they moved to the next departments for layoffs but I do NOT trust our leaders anymore. Rumors are they revisit the NSRL again in Jan and Feb to eliminate other roles. I am applying like crazy! I cannot live like that! Always in fear, watching every dollar I spend in fear of being unemployed next day! No. Absolutely not! I started looking into some gigs to be able to get cash if needed and I go to work but I do minimum to get by. I heard the new rule is that you spend 4 hrs of your time at Nike looking for opportunities outside of Nike! I am applying 24/7.... They are absolutely not done with re org and lay offs! This is the second re org in 2 years .... Nike is so toxic and broken. I came home every day with nausea and headaches from all the bad decisions leaders make and I have zero say! They ask my opinions about what to purchase, where to invest, how to get things done and they go complete opposite and waste millions of dollars every week.... As much as I try to not care, it is still overwhelming to deal with it and su-k it up! In the past 3 months, we have 7 people resigned from our team, all had more than 8 years with Nike as FTE....

HR told my team the only organization that’s done with the reorg is Global Merch, everyone else is still in phase 1. And they won’t give a timeline. It’s tough out here right now, we’re all stressed and in it together. Sorry :(
