Big part of the problem here is that the company decided to just broad stroke every job and make a decision. There are job functions that were done from home before COVID that made sense. Ivory Tower didn't see that. They made a policy that was pretty generic to cover everyone with minimal exceptions.
Add to it this BS about getting EV service vehicles to reduce carbon footprint, while never addressing the RTO impact on that same footprint? News flash: Not every employee drives a Tesla, and don't come at us with the "You can get a discount on a new Tesla through Perks!"

RTO was mandated simply because the monitoring software on company issued devices including laptops and phones revealed significant activity and work location deviations. It also provided geolocation history during normal business hours. Nothing more nothing less.

The flaws inherent in requiring employees to stand behind a store counter are mirrored in the policies of RTO. The contention is that such practices could adversely impact business, suggesting a lack of professionalism. Despite evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of remote work, corporations may assert that maintaining an in-office workforce is essential to uphold their corporate image, even if this degrades efficiency. Do we really care if an employee behind the counter or the cashier is sitting down? Is there a distinction if an employee accomplishes the task regardless of their location?

Get back to the office people. Even for the people RTO Tuesday thru Thursday are only 60% productive at most. We all know they are taking 4 days weekends.

AT&T needs to reduce headcount and they know happy employees will want to stay so they are making as many ppl as miserable as possible to make them LEAVE. Both craft and managers are MISERABLE these days but most are doing much less work with rebellion for the cause. The CEO knows working from home was more productive and made more sense than being in an office but that is the goal of the company, make employees unhappy and they’ll retire or resign making way for the kids who they feel are eager to work and for half of what they’re paying the current 20+ year workforce. Truth is you get what u pay for. I think the best revenge is for the old ppl to stay until the cows come home or leave by force only. We aren’t quitters so keep wishing we’d leave! Misery loves this company and we love our paychecks.

True. WHO was it that not only offered these flexible work/life balance work conditions, but touted and bragged about them to demonstrate to not only prospective employees, but investors who understand that happy employees equal a happy, healthy, and well performing company? It was them.

We didn’t change. They changed, and the snap neck speed in which they did a complete 180 SHOULD cause a significant amount of controversy and resentment.

It’s completely reasonable when you consider the tremendous changes and challenges we’re facing from these decisions that seem to be made hastily without any regard for the life’s they are affecting.

Which is why, the companies that do continue to offer what the employee wants will attract the highest quality employees.

Who is ATT attracting? Read the room!
