Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs will continue and ageism is real

Now for some good news, 3rd quarter was mostly positive one, growth, better revenue and free cash flow. Doing better despite the incompetence at the top. Of course, omissions speak loudly too.

Well since our very own CE admitted the company is looking to move the older folks out and bring in younger folks? All I can say is WOW; based on the comments above our company won’t be here for another 50 years let alone a decade. Thank you all you “youngsters” for providing confirmation that AT&T is a HOSTILE workplace for a protected class of people. Job well done!

“ I’m 60 and find some of the comments funny. Yes, I’m not young anymore but I saved my money very well, raised two children, and will eventually retire comfortably. I had a young upstart ask for my email address and it ends in “msn.com” and they said “that’s ancient, you should get a newer one.” I replied “ that’s because I was an early adopter and was using the internet in the 1980s when getting my degree in computer science and I can still convert hexadecimal and binary numbers to and from decimal and write code. Can you?” I should have taken a picture of the look on his face.”

Kudos to you man! Every young kid, even my 12 year old thinks he knows everything. That’s basically gen Z. Everybody thinks he knows what’s best. Knowing what’s best comes from experience and right now us Gen X and boomers have the experience. We don’t know EVERYTHING but we learned everything the hard way

""Gen X and Millennials (mainly Gen X) built what you know as the Internet today, so I know you aren’t talking about them."

Wrong. The internet was based upon ARPA, which was developed in the 1970's. TCP/IP protocols were developed in the 1980's. Tim Berners Lee, who developed HTTP protocol which is inextricably linked to the modern internet, is 68 years old. Clearly a boomer.

There's a difference between "built" the internet and "Invented" the Internet!

Need to plan your retirement for the approximate 20% reduction in SS around 2032 unless, the government gets off their azz and fixes it before then. They have kicked the can down the road for too many decades. When the so called surplus is gone, it will be dependent on weekly tax revenue from the remaining employed. If corporation’s goal is to offshore most of the jobs and continue to globalize for greed, it’s not good for workers or retirees.

If they could get legislation passed that tied the top politicians retirement into SS only, it would be fixed tomorrow but they are a special class. It’s just like they have a separate healthcare plan vs. the general public. The ACA, aka..Obamacare wasn’t good enough for them. They are also allowed to do insider market trading to enrich themselves, the common citizen is put in jail for that, ask Martha Stewart.

" Last time I checked, full SS retirement is about 67 yrs for most, so Boomers and GenX aren’t leaving for a while. "

Hahaha. GenX here. Like I'm going to wait for full SS retirement age to leave. Not.
Pulling at 62 assuming SS is even still there at all.

Now that they sold the annuity to Aethena, my guess is they're going to come with the " leave or lose your lump sum option " ultimatum sooner rather than later to get rid of all the old farts who are still in the pension plan.

Throwing my name into the VSP hat come January.

"A lot of cultures give respect and honor to their seniors. AT&T youngsters not so much, a lot of entitled and disrespectful attitudes here. Experience, knowledge and competence is gained from many years of training, self improvement/learning and working."...

This sums it up. Best post! 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏.. bravo.

A lot of cultures give respect and honor to their seniors. AT&T youngsters not so much, a lot of entitled and disrespectful attitudes here. Experience, knowledge and competence is gained from many years of training, self improvement/learning and working. We helped build the company to become a Blue Chip even though leadership has done their best to ruin it.

Last time I checked, full SS retirement is about 67 yrs for most, so Boomers and GenX aren’t leaving for a while. Get in line junior, we did and it took us years to get where we are now, so we are not leaving despite your whining, BooHoo! Go to your safe place now, you are in time out.

When will Stankey finally decide to eliminate all the geezers from the company? Unfortunately most are dead weight and have at&t in a stranglehold. Please understand there is no place for you at at&t, if you must continue to work, please consider becoming a greeter at Walmart.

"All the old farts working here need to go, along with their dad jeans. They look ridicules with their depends bulging out. Quit trying to re-live your teenage years!"

Ridicules? Did you pass 4th grade spelling???

To all the geezers left at at&t, Stankey wants you gone. Too many senior employees like to take everything to the extreme, like working until you keel over and die at work. Just get out, ain't nobody wants you hanging around adding nothing to the bottom line.

A lot of anger towards those of us that built this new techno behemoth!
Been here for 4 decades, saw lots and lots of new technology. This makes working for T more fun, why would I think of leaving?

AT&T is nothing more that an old folks home! Most of the employees walk around the complexes with the "depends shuffle". They think it's cute, along with their "dad jeans". Just stop and retire already.

What’s your definition of old? 40? 50? 60?
Gen Z - late 20’s to mid 30’s now
Millennials - late 30’s-40’s now
Gen X - mid 40’s-mid 50’s now
Boomers - 60+

Gen X and Millennials (mainly Gen X) built what you know as the Internet today, so I know you aren’t talking about them.

Can someone translate this gibberish into English?

“ Give the guy some credit.

Something tells me it will be hard for the thousands of people that lost their jobs because of "the guy" or will continue to lose for months, if not years.”

AT&T has too many old guys that don't even know what the internet is. Time to do some ageism to get younger. And better workers.
