Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Many getting their RTO Marching Orders

I’m aware of 6 people in different orgs (HR, RAN, MCAC) being told they must report to Atlanta or Dallas by end of year or March 1 2024. All 6 rejected it and will be exiting the company 12/1. The number of people actually accepting forced relocation is going to be low which they are counting on in reducing headcount. Welcome to the immoral world of Stanley.

You could sell that 1.7 mil house, take the equity and purchase a smaller house on a lake. No mortgage or interest rate to worry about, taxes shouldn’t be an issue because California has some of the highest rates in the country, so it should be a positive or at least a wash. No $6-7 @ gal. fuel prices in Texas, less homeless and you are already used to having a lot of illegals around. I understand, you would have much further to drive to reach the gulf.

I see someone's feeling a little low and insecure tonight.

“No way, no how, I'm moving to some HOA controlled area in Texas where Karen can complain about my grass cutting or the color of my front door.”

This decision sounds right. You are clearly in a different station of life.

"For Southern California residents, it's let me sell my 1.7 million dollar house on a 2.75% mortgage 20 mins away from the ocean to get landlocked oversized house on 8% interest and 3% property tax. No deal."

Many of us in the Northeast completely understand.

"The company damn well knows most people will not choose to relocate in this economy. Yes, let me sell my house that has a sub 4% interest rate on my mortgage and buy one in DFW which is outrageously priced and has an 8% interest rate. Such bullsh-t.

Exactly. And add to that... there is no guarantee or even an implication that you won't be surplussed 6 months later anyway."

Company Trolls try to marginalize employees dilemma of forced relocation and try to make one feel like, you are the problem. Sorry but leadership’s failures are the reason for all of this, nobody is fooled by all the propaganda and vicious attacks.

I have it on good authority that no monitoring of employees for RTO will occur for the remainder of 2023.

Question: does the forced relocation version of a layoff disqualify you for unemployment in any states? If so then that is absolutely why they are doing it. Unemployment claims costs companies big bucks.

“Forced relocation?”
Yes, that’s when they tell you that you have to move to another city/state, so you can sit in an office on teams calls all day or you no longer have a job. So I guess you choice is, move and provide for my family or hope to find another job before my savings runs out. Some choice. Thats why it’s called forced.

“Needs of the business. Not personal.”

You don’t say? Part of the problem is that it ISN’T personal. Work may be performed anywhere. You know that. However, personal considerations would signify a great company. Imagine if ATT took personal considerations into account when deciding whether a person needed to relocate or not.
