my company laptop wifi is disabled by some policy if lan cable is connected. Took a while to figure that one out. Now if I need wifi, I have to unplug the ethernet cable before wifi can be turned on
Can they do that?
I called the help desk this morning regarding connecting to wifi. After taking time and care to communicate my problem, the help desk technician described my problem in the help desk ticket as PBKAM. When I asked what a PBKAM problem was, the help desk technician advised me it was the acronym for Problem Between Keyboard and Monitor. Unbelievable!
That is because you can wirelessly copy files off with a RAVPOWER RP-WD009 and bypass all security in place to archive you work before you quit or get fired.
Lots of conspiracy theorists here. My WiFi turned off too. After restarting laptop etc. nothing worked. I eventually figured out I accidentally turned it off with my mouse when I clicked on the connectivity icon on bottom of screen…
“your going to only get 8-5 Monday through Friday”
For most, this regular schedule of productivity will be an RTO success story.
That would be so great ..
After they disabled using Lan for 3 weeks at our site recently lol. Yes, we escalated an IT ticket, for the entire building. Those who didn't have HVD or a laptop were SOL.
“your going to only get 8-5 Monday through Friday”
You’re generous. 8 to 4. Eat while working and get out.
If you contact helpdesk, you'll be flagged for surpluss.
Some people support customers 24/7 and if a Nashville type situation happens again have to support after hours, holidays, or weekends. The RTO propaganda only goes so far when you get to reality we have to be able to support our customers wherever you are. As someone that has rebuilt a SQL database while attending a family wedding weekend it really pi---s me off and makes me want to say hey you want office only your going to only get 8-5 Monday through Friday work. Don’t sh-t where you sleep.
Everyone needed a laugh in here, admit it :)
This seems like a troll post.
It’s disabled when they catch you surfing somewhere sketchy. Then they can you.
The company never planned for patching all laptops in one fell swoop. It's being done in phases. Didn't get you today? Okay, we will get to you soon, guaranteed! Please be patient.
Geezers please call help desk!
"Wifi setting isn't even an option on the laptop anymore. Cellular or ethernet only."
Nope. I have wifi settings on my lap top and use wifi both at home and in the office. Downvote if you want, the facts are the facts. (I don't like RTO either, but wish people would quite spreading fictions on this site.)
“ disable wi-fi and soon to follow, disable VPN. RTO now mandatory.”
Since spotty wifi is the only thing we have in our office doing that that would mean they don’t want any work done at all.
disable wi-fi and soon to follow, disable VPN. RTO now mandatory.
I use wires in office and at home. How you like them Apples you visionaries?
Time to RTO!
If you are not rated as TW, plan on having wifi disabled on your laptop. Just another we-pon in Stankey's arsenal. The overarching plan is everyone not rated as TW will be required to be in the office five, yes five, days per week. Thanks Stankey!
Call the helpless desk.
Are you sure “they” disabled it? My HP laptop drops wi-fi drivers every few months or so. It’s a known issue with the laptop. Just have IT reinstall them.
Its a virus from one of the p0rn sites you visited while WFH.
many drop in sites only have wifi now. If they disabled it, it's another boneheaded not thought of decision.
So, they probably did do it.
Stankey had threatened to use this as a tactic to encourage employees to RTO. Not sure if this is selectively being used or will apply to all employees not rated as TW.
Wifi setting isn't even an option on the laptop anymore. Cellular or ethernet only.
Did you try to re-enable it using the wifi settings? Occasionally, mine will "disable" through some unknown action and I just go into the wifi settings and renable it.
